Exit routes must be permanent and there must be enough exits in the proper arrangement for quick escape

Exits must be separated by fire-resistant materials

Openings into an exit must be limited to those necessary to allow access to the exit or to the exit discharge

An opening into an exit must be protected by an approved self-closing fire door that remains closed or automatically closes in an emergency

SpartAlert Emergency Notification System◦ The Emergency Notification System is a communications

service that Upstate provides for all students, faculty and staff. All students, faculty and staff can voluntarily register to receive alerts about threats of imminent danger at or near any Upstate location. This service is used in conjunction with other communication channels including on campus paging announcements and campus-wide e-mail.

◦ Be assured that Upstate will also use other communication tools during emergency situations including, broadcast e-mail messages, paging to campus telephone extensions through existing Cisco IP speaker phones, electronic signage, a coordinated use of public media outlets, and a

◦ 24-hour recorded Emergency Hotline, (864) 503-5599.

SpartAlert Emergency Notification System◦ Participants are being asked through VIP to

provide a cell phone number, email address and work/alternate phone in order to receive the alerts in the event of an emergency.
