The Funny Bone Doh!...

A lady was buying a turkey

but she wasn’t pleased with

the one that the butcher

offered her.

“It’s not big enough,” she

specified.

The butcher knew that it was

his last turkey but he

pretended he would go and

have a look in the cold

storage. What he actually

did was, stretch the turkey’s

legs apart and put it in a

bigger box.

“Oh, that’s a good size,” said

the lady, when the butcher

showed it to her. “I’ll take

them both.”

“The service was quick and easy.

They fixed what needed to be

fixed. When I left there I felt like

I was driving a new car. I thought

that I may have needed more than

an oil change and I certainly did.

Also they were reasonable and I

trust them.”

The Funny Bone

Perfect for Friendship Day!

3 Yoga Moves to Make You Less Grumpy 1. Downward-facing dog – Start on all fours with your

hands under your shoulders, palms pressing evenly into the

floor. Tuck your toes under and lift your knees off the floor

as you straighten your legs, as shown. Hold for three to five

breaths.

2. Forearm plank – Start on all fours, then lower onto your

forearms and slowly step your feet out behind you, as

shown, and tuck your tailbone slightly. (If this is too

difficult, drop to your knees.) Pull your abs in tight, and

hold for three to five breaths.

3. Legs up on the wall – Get yourself into this position with

a folded blanket under your butt and lower back, as shown.

Hang out here for up to 10 minutes, or whatever you have

time for. Then breathe a happy sigh of relief!

Garage Sale Insider Tips That Can Mean Big Savings 1. Keep a list of things you are looking for that you KNOW you want.

2. Find a good route, in a fairly affluent area, and follow the route and

signs along the way.

3. Get to know your prices, just as you do with your regular shopping.

4. Polish your negotiation skills! This is the best place in the world to

practice negotiating, even for kids.

5. In addition to items on your list, look for things that will make nice

gifts. Keep a list of those people you need to buy gifts for.

6. If you have an expensive car, use a different one for garage sales.

7. Look for block sales. These are great because you can park your car

and walk to several at once. Save gas!

8. Don’t be afraid to ask for something you might be looking for but

don’t see.

9. Budget a certain amount per month for garage sales. Keep the

money in an envelope so you will have cash for your purchases. If you

buy items to give as gifts, then you might add some to your garage

sale funds from your gift fund. There’s always a way to do some

creative financing here.

neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it

August Customer of the Month: Barbara Archer

Barbara Archer used to be a snowbird, visiting from Swarthmore, Philadelphia. She fell in love with the beauty of Venice and moved here as a full-time resident 12 years ago.

Long since retired from a career in retail, she now focuses solely on her passion for art and has become an award-winning professional painter.

Barbara has been creating distinctive been art and teaching art for over 40 years. Her teaching experience includes beginning and advanced drawing,

painting, soft pastels, color theory workshops, decorative painting and faux finishes.

Locally she’s has taught many classes at the Venice Art Center and is currently teaching at Creative Classes, located at 2357 S. Tamiami Trail in the Holiday Center.

“I love to teach adults classes on drawing, painting and pastels at Creative Classes in Holiday Center on Hwy 41,” Barbara said. “I’ve also enjoyed teaching at Venice and Englewood Art Center.”

“I paint mainly landscapes and portraits in oil, acrylic and pastel,” Barbara said. “I also do collaborative BrushedLens artwork with my partner, John Baldwin.”

Barbara explains that the BrushedLens unique artwork, like the blue heron and mother chick piece, combines John’s photography and her painting. More examples can be found on their website at http://thebrushedlens.artspan.com/.

When she isn’t indulging in her passion for painting Barbara can be found in her garden, tending to the fishpond in her back yard or boating with John.

Barbara has been a loyal customer of 1 Stop Car and Truck Repair since 2000 and considers herself a second-generation customer.

“My uncle always said he got really good service at 1 Stop,” Barbara explained. “One day I found one of their postcards reminding my uncle of an oil check and I decided to bring my own car in. I’ve been a customer ever since.”

Barbara doesn’t hesitate to refer people to 1 Stop Car and Truck Repair.

“Everyone at 1 Stop is very friendly, professional and extraordinarily honest,” Barbara said. “They tell me what’s wrong with the car without talking down to me because I’m a woman. They’re just really nice guys.”
