The Funny Bone A Cup of Tea…

One day Grandma was out, and

Grandpa was in charge of Sally, the

2 1/2 year old.

Sally was enjoying a tea party in

her room while Grandpa was in the

living room engrossed in the

evening news. Sally brought him a

little cup of 'tea', which was just

water. After several cups of tea and

lots of praise for such yummy tea,

Grandma came home.

Grandpa made her wait in the

living room to watch Sally, because

it was 'just the cutest thing!'

Grandma waited, and sure enough,

here comes Sally down the hall

with a cup of tea for Grandpa, and

she watched him drink it up.

Then she said, (as only Grandma

can), "'Did it ever occur to you that

the only place she can reach to get

water is the toilet?"

We’ve Been Duped by the “Close Doors” Button! On most elevators the “Close Doors” button is essentially

a dummy button.

But it’s not as if elevator manufacturers are installing an

extra button just to give you an illusion of control. The

button can be activated, but only by certain people.

“The close buttons don’t close the elevator doors in most elevators built in

the United States since the Americans with Disabilities Act,” explains an

elevator manufacturer. “The button is there for workers and emergency

personnel to use, and it only works with a key.”

Even knowing this, I’ll probably keep impatiently pressing it.

1. Sick of water? Add a tablespoon of sugar-free cranberry juice

to one of your glasses. It's a natural diuretic and helps you shed

water weight fast.

2. Tea drinkers are 20 percent trimmer, according to a 2003 study in the

journal Obesity Research (now called Obesity). Black tea is OK, too, but a

compound called EGCG in green tea gives you the best fat-burning results.

3. COFFEE! Consuming caffeine 45 minutes before your workout will help you

burn more calories. Just make sure your daily cup of joe is cream- and sugar-free.

Want to Win??? Make sure to call in with the answer

to the trivia question on page 3! (Hint: the answer’s in this month’s newsletter!)

Skillet Chicken with Green Chile Sauce

4 medium (1 1/4 pounds) skinless, boneless chicken-breast halves

Salt and pepper ~ 1 tbsp olive oil

1 can (4- to 4 1/2-ounce) diced green chiles

1 cup grape tomatoes, each cut in half

3/4 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth

1/2 tsp ground cumin

1 clove garlic, crushed with press

2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro

Place chicken-breast halves between 2 sheets of plastic wrap. With meat mallet or

rolling pin, pound breasts to an even 1/2-inch thickness; sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon

salt and 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper.

In nonstick 12-inch skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot. Add breasts

and cook 6 to 7 minutes or until browned on both sides and chicken loses its pink

color throughout, turning over once. Transfer breasts to platter; cover with foil to

keep warm.

To skillet, add green chiles, grape tomatoes, chicken broth, ground cumin, garlic

and any leftover juices. Cook 3 minutes to reduce sauce slightly, stirring

occasionally. Stir in cilantro.

The Funny Bone

Dog Juggling!

Learn to Juggle Take just one ball and cradle it in the palm of your hand. With your

elbows close to your sides and your arms extended in-front of you at

about waist height, toss the ball repeatedly from one hand to the other.

Ideally each throw should peak at about eye level, with the throw coming

from slightly towards the centre of the body and the catch slightly

towards the outside. Repeat this throwing and catching action a number

point when that ball reaches its peak and starts its descent, throw the

second ball just inside the arc of the first using the same technique. You

should find that the balls land in your hands one after the other and that

they have exchanged places (called an exchange!).

Now, pick up all three juggling balls. Place two in one hand and one in

the other. Starting with the hand that holds two balls throw one of these

balls in an eye level arc, as the ball peaks perform an exchange. Now as

the second ball peaks perform an exchange again and finish by catching

the third ball leaving two balls in one hand and one in the other once

more. You’re juggling!

Fortune at the Bottom of the Sea

A shipwreck hunter says he has found the wreck of a World War II

merchant ship that was torpedoed by a German U-boat off Cape Cod

with a load of platinum now valued at $3 billion — perhaps the richest

hoard ever discovered at the bottom of the sea.

Greg Brooks of Sub Sea Research, in Gorham, Maine,

said the wreck is the Port Nicholson, a British vessel sunk

in 1942. It’s in 700 feet of water 50 miles offshore.

Brooks said the Port Nicholson was going from Nova Scotia to New

York and carrying 71 tons of platinum when it was torpedoed. The

platinum was intended as payment from the Soviet Union to the United

States, he said.

skilled than the person who never tries to juggle more

than three.” - Marilyn vos Savant

of times until you feel comfortable with it. As you make

each catch, let the ball fall into your hand, cushioning its

landing and in the same circular motion send it on its way

again. Practice this lesson over-and-over until you feel

relaxed and each throw is under control.

Next, take two balls, one in each hand. Using the same

technique, throw one of the balls to the other hand. At the
