In 2009, Russias astest train achieving

speeds o up to 250 km/h is placed

into service. At the same time, Siemens

enters into a maintenance agreement or

the next 30 years and sets up one o the

worlds most advanced maintenance de-

pots, which uses innovative maintenance

technologies and methods, including

PDAs and Computerized Maintenance

Management Systems (CMMS). All the

technicians undergo intensive practical

and theoretical training with successul

results. The Velaro RUS comes through

its frst winter with ying colors, experi-

encing only two minor delays despite ice,

snow, and temperatures as low as -32C.

Velaro RUS, Russia: Charter Rail for High Speed Trains

As part o a 15-year contract, Siemens

has been maintaining Bangkoks 35 air-

conditioned metro trains, signaling and

interlocking equipment, and operations

control center since the year 2000. Among

other things, the agreement also inclu-

des maintaining the medium-voltage po-

wer supply, the third rail power supply,

the track superstructure, and the depot

and workshop acilities or a line totaling

33 km. Thus, or over 10 years Siemens

has been ensuring that 99 % o the trains

reach their destinations on time.

Starting in 2009, the entire metro eet

o the Companhia do Metropolitano de

So Paulo is being completely renova-

ted and brought up to the technological

state o the art. Within a period o 63

months, Siemens modernizes all 150

car bodies and eliminates the central

drivers cabs. In addition, subsystems

such as the traction unit, on-board power

supply, entrance doors, air conditioning,

compressed air supply, fre alarm system,

passenger inormation system and CCTV

are being replaced with new, modern

systems. These measures not only extend

the operational lietime o the eet, but

also increase passenger capacity.

Metro So Paulo, Brazil: Refurbishment of a whole fleet

In 2006, the Dutch government contracts

with Siemens to maintain the HSL Zuid

railway network, comprising two lines

with a total length o 100 km. Besides the

power supply system and contact lines,

Siemens will also be maintaining all sig-

naling technology and communications

equipment until 2031. To reduce distan-

ces and speed up response times, the

services are provided rom two dierent

locations. In addition, a spare part store

is constructed near the main oice in

Dordrecht. Since the start o the contract,

these services which are coordinated by

an independent maintenance corporation

(IMBV) have achieved all availability

goals.
