Finn Wagstaff Book Review-The Casual Vacancy-J.K. Rowling The Casual Vacancy is a novel by J.K. Rowling. This read is about a town in England and the interlocking stories that unfold when the town councilman dies unexpectedly. Barry Fairbrother, the town councilman, left a hole in the lives of the people of Pagford, a small town. The book chronicles the stories of the councilman’s wife, a poor family in the projects, the schoolmaster, his son, and how their personal lives relate to the other people in the town. The book really comes full circle and leaves you feeling content with how the book ends. It exposes all the characters and is expertly written. I would give this book seven out of ten stars because it is a charming and witty read. However, the first one hundred pages are very slow and some of the characters are kind of dull to read about. I would recommend this book to very mature readers because it has many adult themes and would be inappropriate for younger readers.
