Telefilm MicroBudget Production Program AFCOOP is pleased to announce our recommendation for the Telefilm MicroBudgetProduction Program this year goes to writer/director Iain MacLeod and producerSean Doyle for their project, "Neighbourhood Safety Patrol." Their project will besent to the national shortlist to compete for production funding with projects fromacross the country. The results of that competition will be released mid-­March.

Neighbourhood Safety Patrol When an incompetent Neighbourhood Watch-­type group tries to catch a burglar onvideo, slightly crazed group member Lance convinces the others to pursue asuspect who, unbeknownst to the rest of the group, stole Lance’s girlfriend fromhim. Funny thing is, despite his motives, Lance might be right.

Iain MacLeod Writer/Director: Iain was educated at York University (BA English1995) and the Canadian Film Centre (Professional Screenwriting Programme 2001).He has also participated in various workshops and two NSI programmes (TotallyTelevision 2005/6 and Features First 2007/8) and was the writer mentor forAFCOOP’s Film 5 programme for several years.

Sean Doyle Producer: Sean is a Halifax producer educated at the Nova ScotiaCommunity College (Screen Arts 2001) and the Canadian Film Centre (Producer’sLab 2004/5). Additionally, Sean held a CTV Fellowship and participated in theRotterdam/Cinemart Lab (both 2006). Sean also was a participant in the CFTPAAtlantic Mentorship Program and NSI’s Features First (2007/8). Sean has beenactive as Production Manager on various film and television productions in Halifax.

Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival -­ DEADLINE MIDNIGHTTONIGHT FEB. 28th!

The 8th Annual HIFF, which takes place June 7-­11, 2014, will feature newexperimental, animated, documentary, and narrative works from near and far, aswell as video installations, artist talks, and a special 40th Anniversary retrospectiveof the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative. The full program, including a list of visitingfilmmakers will be announced in March.

Presently, HIFF is pleased to announce the 2014 Call for Entries for recent AtlanticCanadian short works from Atlantic Canadian writers, producers, or directors. DMT – Learn the role of the Data Management Technician – March 23rd In the age where film is no longer the standard and digital cinematographycontinues to evolve, cameras come with digital mags. A data managementtechnician (DMT) is a digital film loader, whose job is to off load the digital files on-­set in a secure organized folder structure, and keep the integrity of the metadata.They work with the cinematographer to create a one light scenario and prepare theimage for the next stage in post-­production. In this workshop you will learn whatthe DMT is responsible for, how to handle digital files on-­set, the essentials ofbacking up and what software to use. Life’s a Pitch-­ the basics of pitching your idea to a TV broadcaster – April

10 Doesn’t matter what TV program we’re talking about…Breaking Bad, Big Brother,Trailer Park Boys or Cops… all of them started with a PITCH. A Pitch is short, but itcan take years to master. This 3-­hour workshop is a good place to start. From thekey elements of a great pitch, to actually giving it a shot;; Sonya Jampolsky will alsoshare bits from her years of pitching experience, the good, the bad and the justplain embarrassing. This class, as part of WIFT-­AT's Women Making Waves conference, will consist of10 screenwriters who will receive feedback and be critiqued on the first ten pagesof their own screenplays and up to 15 observers (writers/directors/others) who willbe able to attend the whole master class, but will not receive direct feedback ontheir work. To ensure value for everyone, during the Master Class, Ruba willanalyze the first ten pages of 1-­2 popular feature films, as well as offer two of herown scripts up for analysis. She will then offer feedback on the individual scripts ofthe 10 writers as part of the overall class.

As space is limited, attendance to this master class is based on an applicationprocess. Those interested in applying must have produced work as a screenwriterand submit the first ten pages of a screenplay draft to be reviewed.

contemporary art in all disciplines, which has had its first public presentation within

The Selection Committee of the Canadian Labour International Film Festival (CLiFF)

invites you to submit your film or video for possible screening during our Festival to

be held this November in Toronto, Ontario and in 50 communities across the

About the Film Festival CLiFF features film and video made by, for, and about the world of work and those

who do it, in Canada and internationally. The films we showcase are about

unionised workers, as well as those not represented by unions. We encourage

projects regarding any and every aspect of work, as well as issues affecting work or

workers.

The festival draws trade unionists, community members, youth, activists, students,

educators, artists, and allies from across North America and one day, we hope, the

world.

Eligibility We are looking for films on a wide spectrum of issues. We seek films about

privatization, youth, First Nations people, people of colour, immigrants, refugees,

detainees, health and safety, resistance, art, poetry, women, lesbian, gay, bisexual,

transgendered people, taxi drivers, truck drivers, rickshaw drivers – anyone who

does anything considered work.

We also encourage the widest possible variety of films: from documentaries to

drama to poetry/poetic treatments to comedy and animation.

1 The Festival is open to all film and video makers.

2 The Festival is open to all lengths but there is a strong preference for shorter

works.

3 Films and videos must be in English or have English sub-­titles. French subtitles
