INTRODUCTION TO FEAST WEEK 2012
Welcome to the Hilton Feast Week Programme for 2012
Here we are again! Another year has rolled by all too quickly and what a year it has been. We were very proud to 'do our bit' for Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Hilton and we've been working like Trojans while you've enjoyed the European Championship (Fingers crossed for England) to get things ready for FW 2012. Despite Tracy Wilkinson , Adrian Snooke and Ett McCarthy taking a well earned rest from 'Feast Week' duty this year , luckily the core of experi enced committee members remained behind. I knew that with such a dedicated, hard working and creative committee around me, the year held much to look forward too. My heartfelt thanks go out to: Gill , Hilary, Sara, Sharon, Craig, Graeme and Rich for all your hard work on the Hilton Feast Week Committee.
I can't think of a more charming way to kick off Feast Week than with the 'Hilton Ball ' on Friday 20th July. The men and the women of Hilton replete in black tie and fabulous evening wear adding a touch of glamour to the forthcoming proceedings and rais ing a glass of bubbly to a successful Feast Week.
On Sunday 22nd July the Produce Show will open Feast Week by the parade of floats , this year's theme "Anything Goes". We hope that we will see many more entrants. It's a wonderful way to start the week and a further demonstration of what a talented bunch we Hiltonians are! Songs of Praise Church Service at 5.00pm in the marquee for all to attend which replaces the usual morning service in the Hilton Parish Church.
We have a full programme of events; children focused during the f irst few days, your very own Hilton Cricket Club. Wednesday onwards brings the old favou ri tes from 'Irish Bingo' - 'Entertainer/Band Night' to the 'Friday Entertainment Night' .
Britain's best George Michael tribute act is on Thursday. He has doubled for George himself by request of his own Record Company! That's how good he is, and for those, like me who have seen him, you won't quite believe it's not really George! Not to be missed!
Polish your shooting boots and get down for the penalty shoot out , the best way to warm up for the 'Village Sports Day' including the battle of wills and brawn that is the 'Tug of War' on Saturday 28th July. After which we can all enjoy the most quintessential of Hilton traditions the 'Village Tea', followed of course by the presenting of the 'Art Show' prizes and Summer Grand Draw Raffle prizes. Saturday brings the BIG BOLD sound of 'BIG 10' this amazing 10 piece band , including one of our very own Hiltonians! They play festivals and have supported the likes of Bad Manners' and they will keep us 'bouncing all night! Well at least until Dean and Eclipse Disco Sound and Light System plays us out.
You will f ind full details of all the events along with timings in the centre of this programme. We are very grateful to all the local businesses and organisations that have supported Feast Week with their sponsorship of the programme. Entry forms to the Produce Show, Art Show and Entertainment Night are also within these pages.
Please keep this programme to hand for details about how you can join in and you'll find most of this information available on the village website - www.hi lton-village.com • ~sr~X?

Have a fantastic Feast Week 2012!
The Parade of Floats and the
Carolyn Swinburne Memorial Trophy
Feast Week 2012 will start with the opening of the Produce Show at 2pm followed by "the Parade of Floats" around the village after meeting up outside the cricket pavil ion at 3pm on Sunday 22nd July.
The theme this year is 'Anything Goes' and we would welcome as many entries as possible. The saying , the more the merrier , remains true.
The standard of the floats is always high and they continue to impress. There are obviously a lot of creative people in the village and it is always a great pleasure to see the end results, the costumes and decoration. A true sign of a good entry is the danger that the paint is st i ll wet and the kids are st ill wear ing some of it !
As usual the floats will be judged, and the winn ing float wi ll be awarded the Carolyn Swinburne Memorial Trophy. This trophy was kindly donated by Keith , Hannah, Rebecca and Charlotte in memory of Carolyn who loved to see families and friends having fun in the Village.
That really is the aim of Feast Week and the first Sunday really epitomises the community spirit of Feast Week. What a great way to catch up with friends and families , see how they have done at the Produce Show, eat the cakes, have a drink and enjoy a relaxing day on Hilton's great amenity- The Green.
You may have noticed that we go ing to repeat our Sunday Feast Week celebrat ion service which, like last year , will be a Songs of Praise Service at 5pm in the marquee. Do join us.
So get planning, get pa inting , dressed up and come down to what is always a great day. Don't worry if you cannot get a float together, why not just get in to character and join in the parade. It is quite fun to see the compet it ive r ivalry between some of the floats -all done in the best possible taste of course.
There will of course be the Barbeque, kids bar and main bar available through the afternoon.

FEAST WEEK 2011/12 - REVIEW OF THE YEAR November - As ever we supported the 'Village bonfire and firework display' providing a BBQ, Children's refreshment & sweet bar. My thanks to the Zarno family for allowing us to once again use their utilities. To honour our Olympic year we introduced the 1st leg of our 'Triathlon of Quizzes'- We took a gamble hoping that the competitiveness of Hiltonians and the topicality of the Olympics would keep 'em coming back for the other two legs?! We needn't have worried it was as ever a spirited and hotly contested event, my thanks to Craig Sutherland for co-writing the quiz. December - 'Hilton Feast Week Nativity' held at outside the Methodist Church was a combined effort both physically and spiritually in a purpose built manger outside. This wonderful tradition crows in strength year on year. With the crowd and 'performers' singing carols, listening to readings, angel and enjoying refreshments afterwards mulled wine, mince pies. My thanks to Hilary Holmes and family and all the faiths that pulled together to make it so special. The 'Winter Grand Draw' proved ever popular and it is always a pleasure delivering the 1st 2nd and 3rd prizes, a welcome early present from Santa! Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets for this and the Summer Grand Draw. January - The 2nd leg of the 'Triathlon of Quizzes' kicked off New Year! This was fantastically well supported. My thanks again to Steve Lawton, Neil Turner and Jon Platt who put this together. March - The 3rd and final leg of the 'Triathlon of Quizzes'- This idea really caught the imagination with attendance at each quiz up on last year! With so much at stake, a new trophy no less, it was more competitive than ever but fun, fun, fun! My congratulations to our very own intellectual Olympians, Team - 'Ooooooooooh I wouldn't have done it like that when I was on the Committee' - It would seem that ex-Feast Week Chairman lose none of their wit! May - We were more than happy to work with Liz Bush and the Hilton Jubilee Celebrations Committee to make our contribution. The 'Bingo and Hog Roast' proved to be just what the crowd needed to keep them going from 6-10 prior to the lighting of the Village Beacon. The bingo calling may have been less than polished? Peter Balicki need not fear for his Wednesday evening slot at Feast Week! But the bar was kept busy all night and we ran out of hog! It was a lovely day and culmination to a fabulous weekend for the entire village. June - Your hard working Committee and Friends of Feast Week pounded the beat to sell those Summer Grand Draw tickets. A vital fundraiser to keep your fantastic Feast Week going, remember, you've got to be in it to win it!
However, none of that would be possible without all the help and support of the 'Friends and Supporters of Feast Week.' From the storage provided by the Richard's family the countless hours of volunteers too numerous to list here that give so generously of their time to help set up, clear up, man BBQ's and Bar alike, deliver flyers and put up 'white boards'. The 'Front of House" Steve Lawton, Dave Ruddy and Gareth and Amanda Stuart ensure that our very own brand of 'Britain's Got Talent' is a success on Friday night and many, many more.
And not least you, our fellow Hiltonians, the paying customers who put your hands in your pockets and attend the fundraisers all year round and buy the Grand Draw tickets.
Thank you all for you continued support of this finest of Hilton Village traditions. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Feast Week 2012.

A MESSAGE FROM THE FEAST WEEK CHAIRMAN
This year's Committee has been working together now for some time' bringing with them creativity, drive, energy and generosity of spirit. I would like to think that they have been rewarded by having another great year. I hope their experience encourages more of our fellow Hiltonians to do the same? I hope it comes across the fun we've had and the pleasure we get from seeing our friends, families and fellow Hiltonians enjoying the fundraising events we've put on. We've worked hard and played hard and had many laughs along the way.
To put this event on does involve a lot of hard work and time and the committee deserves a lot of praise and thanks for all the effort they have put in over the last 12 months. Not only do they all juggle jobs and family responsibilities , they pour their hearts and souls into making sure Feast Week is as good as it can be. It would not happen without their hard work, my thanks to you all. Further more I would like to take the opportunity to thank their families. They generously 'share' their loved ones with duties of being a Feast Week Committee member.
One of the things I have come to appreciate over the years I have been involved on the Feast Week committee is the help that is given by large numbers of people in the village to make sure that we can stage this event year in year out . That help does not only mean helping put on events but also coming to the events during the year and supporting Feast Week financially. It costs in the region of £25,000 to stage Feast Week and it is therefore necessary to hold those fundraising evenings to raise £10,000 through the year. If they are not supported as well as they are, then the future of Feast Week would be in doubt.
So please do continue to come along to the events that are put on. As you can see from the photos and reports on the Village website the atmosphere at the fundraising evenings is great.
I can't stress enough how important it is to attend the AGM which is set for Tuesday 11th September in the Village Hall. Please come along and show your support for Feast Week. There will always be a need for new volunteers for the committee or helpers through the 'Friends of Feast Week' route. I am sure that the newly formed 'Sports Day Committee' would welcome and appreciate some additional members.
I also want to thank everyone who comes along to help set up Feast Week and help move our kit backwards and forwards (and indeed storing it on our behalf), counting the bar stock, erecting the stage, wiring up the electricity, clearing up on Sunday or even sleeping in the marquee as security. I would also like to thank the Vi llage Hall Committee, Parish Council , Town Trust , Hilton Village Cricket Team and the Hilton Ball Committee for their help and support over t he year.
As usual this has turned into a great 'thank you' which is entirely appropriate. Please come down to the marquee and make me want to thank even more people.
See you at Feast Week, Justo Perez (Chairman of Feast Week)

Compered by Steve Lawton For many villagers Entertainment N1ght is one of the highlights of Feast Week and we never cease to be amazed at the level of talent on offer in our small village. No matter what your talent may be this is your chance to show it off to the rest of the village. All you have to do to take part is complete the form below and deliver it to:
David Ruddy at 4 Kidmans Close Tel: 01480 830113 BEFORE MONDAY 23rd JULY.
Please ensure that all recorded music is with Gareth Stuart at Croeso Church Lane Tel: 01480 830073 also BEFORE MONDAY 23rd JULY
To make sure we all experience an enjoyable evening, David and Gareth would appreciate all performers meeting the deadlines. Thank you
Due to inevitable time constraints, it may be necessary to limit each performer to just one act or to limit the length of the acts. This has actually never happened but, if it should, David will contact you to discuss . Additionally, due to concerns about noise disturbance, we have to ensure that no rehearsals take place in the marquee other than during the day on Friday 27th July. David will contact you to arrange a rehearsal time. If you need to practise on the stage for positioning purposes only, then please call David to arrange this; thank you.

Tug of War For the
Ron Collard Trophy Now returned to its rightful slot as the culmination of Sports Day and before the Village Tea and the Art Show awards on Saturday 28th July (weather permitting) we can hold the Tug of War contest for the Ron Collard Trophy. Last year's successful team married 'brute strength' to a fearsome will to win! But don't let that put you off!
Ron Collard was part of the successful Chequers Croft team initially tugging and then becoming the team's manager. Tragically, Ron died in 1991 and since then the trophy awarded to the winning team has become the Ron Collard Trophy, in memory of him. A member of Ron's family has presented the trophy every year since. The winning team will be able to enjoy a drink courtesy of Ron's family and the Feast Week Committee.
This great gladiatorial battle has seen something of a revival in recent years so please try to get a team together and enter for a chance of winning this year's medals. If however you feel that this you are not up for this sporting challenge and all it involves? Pick a favourite team and cheer them from the sidelines with cries of 'Heave'
We will of course look to allow the ladies and children to get involved between the heats and if there are enough ladies interested we will arrange a contest for them as well.
Please start thinking about your teams now. Traditionally teams have comprised members who all live in a particular area of the Village (historically teams have been drawn from the following areas - Chequers Croft/Tithe Close, The Green, Potton Road/High Street, Westbrook, New England and the Paddocks, Kidmans and Graveley Road , Rutland Green and surrounding roads , Scotts Close/Scotts Crescent).
Top tip: Don't try and do this in flip flops , sandals or vests - we don't like to see big boots but sturdy shoes/trainers are a good idea. Also, secure the services of a 'caller' to get you all working as one and motivating you to give that last smidgeon of effort that could be the difference between victory and defeat!

Dear Friends,
A FEAST WEEK MESSAGE FROM OUR VICAR
What a year this is. With the Diamond Jubilee still reverberating in the land, the Olympics are upon us. And Feast Week to cap it all. Last year was my first experience of the full week, and I thought it was just terrific! The Sports Day seemed to be a piece of Old England brought to life, and I even survived judging the floats and having to choose a winner. This year , I am so confident of my ability to avoid a lynching two years running that I am handing the task to my colleague, Revd David Underwood. Please be kind to him.
Once again there will be a Songs of Praise service on the first day of Feast Week, Sunday July 22nd, at 5.00 pm. Please come to the marquee to sing some well known hymns and hear a Hiltonian tell her own story about finding faith. I am sorry to be missing it all - the only week we could get away turned out to be this one. I know the Feast Week committee has been working as hard as ever throughout the year to ensure another triumphant week of celebrations. It is worth remembering that all of this came about to mark the feast day of the patron saint of the parish church , St Mary Magdalene. Mary was a troubled person who found in Jesus someone who took her seriously and who could see the beauty within her behind the disorder of her life. Hilton is a wonderful village with a lot of people who take time to make things happen. My prayer for the village is that all will find that they are valued and helped to grow because of this generous energy that we see on display during Feast Week. Have a wonderful time.
With all good wishes,
David Busk

The higher the resolution the better please.

With fresh blood on this year's committee contributing greatly to this year 's success , I can recommend to anyone that they should consider giving a stint on the Feast Week Committee a go . The fun , camaraderie and immense prid~ it gives are reward enough, let alone the looks on people's faces after another successful Feast Week. Please make a note in your diary and come along.
The AGM is a chance for anyone to join the committee for next year. Feast Week is an important part of Hilton village life and new individuals are needed to come along and join in. There are always changes to the committee, it is not a closed shop, and this is the night to come along and make your self known. This allows new ideas to be put forward and hopefully keep the event fresh .
There needs to be a functioning committee to put the event on and the fundraising events through the year. This year the committee has also had great support in the form of Friends of Feast Week who help sell grand draw tickets , deliver flyers, build the stage, create the Art Show, organise Sports Day and much more. If you do not feel you can commit fully to the committee your help in this manner would also be gratefully received.
If you are not sure about putting yourself forward take the opportunity to talk to one of this year's committee who can advise you what it has "been like over the last year and indeed let you know that it can even be a bit of fun getting involved. We look forward to seeing you at the AGM.
