    Appendix AAmendments

This section presents various additions, options, an dmn"mli. on the inJol'malion in Black Book, volumes I, 2,

3.I, No.1: Plastic explosive filler1, First, we recommend using a compound detonator.

as we have found that No, 8 blasting caps occasionallyfail to detonate the plastic.2. Second, instead of using plain petroleum jelly, we recommend the following process:a. Place the desired amount of petroleum jelly in a

heat-resistant container.h. Add an equal volume of acetone.c. Heat on high heat until the petroleum jeU)' has

melted,d. Ad d the hot mi x to the potassium chlorate.e. Knead well.t Le t th e rest of th e acetone evaporate off.

3, An alternative to petroleum jelly that works equallywell, i f not better, is castor oil. Use th e system outlinedin comment 2,4. Let us stress that the potassium chlorate must be theconsistent-"'Y of tlour - otherwise, the plastic will no t bea plastic an d might not detonate.S. To make a C-4-like plastic explosive, simply mi.x a liltlemore than 9 parts RDX and a IittJe less than 1 part petroleum jellyor castor oil using th e process described above.

Sec . I, No.6: FertiUzer explosive1. This is the famous ANfO commercial explosive (Sec.L No. 6), It ge nerally works best if a slick of high explosive,su ch as dynamite, is used to initiate it.2. 1. You will obtain a purer product if yo u us e commercialurea. This can be purchased in a crystalline form fromchemical supply stores. Use about % cu p urea-nitratecrystals instead of the urine in step 3. Otherwise, use thesame process.

    1. I l is much simpler to obtain cupric sulfate from anyhobby shop. It will give the t1naJ product a greater degr-ccof purity an d will not expose the maker to the dangerousfumes produced during its manufacture.

Sec. I, No. 17: Hl\1TO1. While al'my heat tabs contain hexamin, they also contain other impurities, which may make the tinal productuseless. The safer roule is to use hexamin obtained fr'Oma df1.lg slore or a chemical supply store.

Sec. I, No. 18: Potassium or sodium nitrite an d litharge1. Again, the simpler route is to obtain the chemicalsfrom a chemical supply store. JJyou do opt to make thechemicals YOllr'Seif, just use the potassium or sodiumnitrates to obtain the respective nitrites. Don't bothel'vvith the lead picrate. I t is much too complicated a process, yielding much too weak an explosive.

Sec. I, No. 19: ODNP1. DDNP is, by far, a superior primary explosive to all theothers mentioned in the Black Book$. While it if> morecomplicated to manufacture than lead azide or' similarprimary explosives, it is far more powerful an d has ilhigher detonation velocity.2. Certain chemical supply stores sell a 9 ~ p e r ' ( ; c n t (supersaturated) solution of picric acid. Using the recommended amount of lhis solution an d adding % teaspoonof lye vvill give you a satisfactory mixture.

Sec. I, No. 20: Lead piaale1. Thif> process is fairly complicated to follow an d i1yicJdsa relatively weak primary explosive. Ifyo u have the picricacid necessary to manufacture it, you might as well makeI)DNP, which will give you about "0 times the power' oflead picrate.
