CONFIGURING AN INTERNAL DNS SERVER.(WINDOWS SERVER 2003)

About DNS (Domain Name System).This tutorial documents the steps needed to create an internal DNS Serer that !ill allo! "ou to use#$riendl"# names !ithin "our %&N (%ocal &rea Net!or') or proide a plat$orm $or ost eaders to e used!ithin "our IIS (Internet In$ormation Serices) con$i*uration+

I$ usin* the #/lassic# st"le Start menu- /lic' on #Start#, #Settin*s#, #/ontrol anel#, #&dd or Remoero*rams# and select the #&dd.Remoe Windo!s /omponents# ta on the le$t1hand side+

In the #Windo!s /omponents Wiard#, hi*hli*ht the #Net!or'in* Serices# and press the #Details#utton+ The screen elo! !ill e displa"ed (i* 4)+

Then, chec' #Domain Name S"stem (DNS)# as sho!n in i*ure 2 elo! and clic' #O5# to close each!indo! and #Ne6t# to install DNS+ 7ou !ill e as'ed to insert "our Windo!s Serer 2003 dis'+ /lic'#inish# once the installation is complete+

No! that our DNS Serer is operational, !e need to add a ost name+ &s I hae set up IIS to use#ost eaders# I need to create an entr" $or m" Intranet (see IIS? tutorial here)+ This is *oin* to eintranet+simon*ison+com+

To add the ne! ost, ri*ht1clic' in the !hite space in the pane on the ri*ht and select #Ne! ost (&)+++#$rom the menu that appears (as sho!n in i*ure @ aoe)+

In m" case, m" !esite is hosted e6ternall" so I !ill need to add another ost called #!!!# !hich !illpoint at the I o$ the !e serer on !hich it is hosted+ I !ill also need to do the same $or m" email "addin* a #mail# host+
