Material and Method

Preparation of Epoxized Natural Rubber

Field Latex 2,890 g

Add terric 16 A 16 of 225 g at 50 OC, 30 min.

Add formic acid of 537 g, 60 min.

Dilute to 20 % DRC

Add H2O2 of 2,259 g, 180 min.

25 % mole ENR 50 % mole ENR

60 min. 360 min.

Preparation of Epoxized Natural Rubber

25 % mole ENR 50 % mole ENR

Add methanol to coagulate latex

Make sheet with two-roll-mill

Washed with water and 5% Na2CO3, and dry at 60-70OC, 24 Hr.

FT-IR and property

Preparation of compound rubber

• Grind and mix rubber with chemicals as formula that shown in Table 1 by using two‐roll‐mill machine, after that store the compound rubber at the room temperature for 24 hours.

Characterization

• Lead  compound  to  test  with  ODR  2000 machine (Tech Pro) as the standard method of ASTM D  2048‐95,  by  set  the  temperature  at 150 0C and set the metal plate with 3 degree angle  to  find out  the  scorch  time and  to  find out the cure time of rubber  . Tensile strength of vulcanized rubber were determined as 

ASTM   D 412 (die c).

• Oil resistant were determined by use ASTM No.1 and IRM 903 oil at temperature 100 0C for 22 hours and then measured the volume that had been changed.

Summary

The epoxidized natural rubber which prepared from field latex for 60 and 360 minutes will have group of epoxide equal 25 and 50 percent mol; and the scorch time  and  cure  time  will  be  less  than  natural  rubber when  use  CBS  to  be  catalyst.  In  addition,  the  natural rubber has a more tensile strength than the epoxidizednatural  rubber.  After  ageing  the  epoxidized natural rubber has  changed  the  tensile  strength  less  than  the natural rubber  in both case of using MBTS and CBS  to be  catalyst  and  there  are  better  in  an  oil  resistant property.
