RULES & REGULATIONS:

1. The exhibition is to be held in the exhibition buildings and grounds and to be continued open for 5 days each year. The gates open at 12pm and close at 10pm.

2. Admission Fees: Daily Pass $6 Season Pass $25 Ages 10-15 $3 Season Pass $10 Children under 10 admitted free Seniors 65+ $2 (Wednesday only)

3. Trailer Parking is as followed: Trailers will be charged from the time they pull in until closing on Saturday. Cost is $8.00 per day. Any Garbage must be put out by the horse club booth in the evenings after all events have finished.

4. Rules of Entry: intending exhibitors & visitors are advised to read and consider carefully the following rules & regulations covering the Exhibition, which will be strictly enforced.

5. Premiums: Open to the Province to be awarded to competitors for articles of their own growth or production or ownership. In various classes, the entry must in every instance be made in the name of the bona fide owner/producer. In all cases, the exhibitor will be considered the owner for the duration of the Exhibition. Unless this rule is strictly observed, no prizes will be awarded to the entry.

6. Articles exhibited, excepting livestock, must be the growth, production, or manufacturer of during the present year, except where otherwise noted.

7. No exhibits shall be received after 10am the first day of Exhibition. Unavoidable delays to be dealt with at the discretion of the committee. Exhibitors are urgently advised to register their entries prior to opening day and no article entered for exhibit is to be removed before 9pm on closing day, under forfeiture of all prizes that may have been awarded. Livestock is not to be removed before 8pm on closing day unless prior arrangements have been made with the Executive.

8. Exhibitors will, at all times, give personal attention to their exhibit(s) and at close of Exhibition, take charge of the same.

9. If the exhibited article of any section be of inferior quality, the judges will award only such premiums as they determine and they may exercise their discretion as to whether they will award any premium.

10. Safety of Exhibits: Special employees and/or volunteers will be in charge and will, with the aid of Law Enforcement, endeavour to protect property and ensure good order. It must be understood however that the exhibitor/owners themselves must assume all risk. Should any exhibit be accidentally injured, lost or stolen, while the Association will give all the assistance in its power, it will not make any payment or reimbursements for the value thereof.

11. Each exhibitor will receive from the Secretary, or someone appointed by the Secretary, an entry tag for each article to be exhibited, and is required to affix such tag upon the article which is to be exhibited, specifying the class, section and exhibitor’s ID number. Entry sheets are to be filled out and submitted to the Secretary.

12. Limit of entries: no person shall be permitted to enter for exhibition more than one specimen of the required quantity in any one section, or more than one specimen from any one farm, garden or manufacturer. *This rule is not to be applied to animals.

13. Declaration of Exhibitor: exhibitors shall, if required, make a statutory declaration that the articles exhibited are in accordance with the rules & regulations of the Association. If an exhibitor refuses to make such a declaration when requested, all premiums awarded shall be forfeited.

14. Expenses of transportation by the Exhibitor: exhibitors must provide for the delivery of their articles to the Exhibition grounds. The Association cannot make provision for the transportation, or be subject to any expense thereof, either with the delivery to or return from the grounds. All expenses connected therewith must be provided by the exhibitors themselves, and all expenses & cartage charges must be prepaid.

15. Exhibits addressed to Manager: Articles not accompanied by their owners must have the exhibitor’s name plainly marked thereon and be addressed to the proper department, in care of the Exhibition, except by and at the expense of their owners or their authorized agents.

16. All exhibits must remain intact until the close of the Exhibition.

Any person behaving in an offensive manner will be banned from the Exhibition for the period of one year, unless otherwise stipulated. The Board of Directors of the Shelburne County Agricultural Exhibition have the authority to take disciplinary action against any unruly behaviour.

17. Complaints directed toward the Exhibition must be put in writing and submitted to the President or Manager to be dealt with at a specially convened meeting of the Executive & Directors, called for that purpose.

18. Any person who shall attempt to interfere with the judges whilst in the discharge of their duties, or shall attempt to influence their decisions by their presence or remarks, shall forfeit their right to any prizes or premiums which they might have otherwise been entitled to, and will be dealt with as the Committee may determine.

19. The Judges will not enter into argument with exhibitors as to the merits of their exhibits, but after judging a section (if time permits) they may state their reasons for their awards and answer reasonable questions.

20. Judges will sign and hand their list of awards to the Secretary or their assistant as soon as possible and make their more extended report afterward, with such recommendations as circumstances or their experience may suggest. The Judges are requested not to leave the grounds until they have ascertained that there are no protests against the awards in the classes which they have judged.

21.In the absence of sufficient numbers on a committee, the chairperson may choose a person or persons to assist the committee.

22. The award of premiums will be paid by cheque (except in the case of a specific cash prize) on the evening of closing day.

Re. Livestock23.Every exhibitor of livestock must, if required, make a statutory declaration

that, to the best of their knowledge & belief, their herd is free from infection or contagious disease before they shall be permitted to exhibit the herd or any portion thereof.

24. In all purebred classes, the animals must be registered in the Canadian National Livestock Records or Association and be approved by them. Such registration papers, properly transferred to the Exhibitor, must be produced when required to do so.

25. If the exhibit in any section is of inferior quality, the judges will award only such premiums as they deem advisable, and they may exercise their discretion as to whether they will award any premium.

26. For any cattle suspected of having ringworm, the committee will call in an authorized veterinarian for inspection.

27. In all cases, the right is reserved to reject entirely or to accept conditionally, any entry or application. Under no circumstances will any animals which are suffering from contagious diseases, or articles which are dangerous by reason of their combustible or explosive character, be admitted. If such an article be introduced by an exhibitor, through misrepresentation or otherwise, they may be removed from the premises by order of the Manager.

28. The age of dairy cattle will be calculated from January 1st and September 1st of each year.

29. Ages of horses will be calculated to the 1st of January each year.

30. No animal under 3 months of age will be allowed to compete as a separate entry.

31. All animals must be exhibited in the section set apart for their age group. Younger animals will not be allowed to show in any section intended for older animals.

32. All animals must be shown in the ring and exhibitors must be prepared to bring them out when called for.

33. No person shall be permitted in the judging rings during the time of judging except the Judges, their assistants, and the grooms.

34. All vehicles must be off the grounds by 10 each morning, except when the vehicle is needed for delivery or pickup.

35. There will be a $5 charge for all horses to be held by the Association in the event that drug testing is required.

36. There will be zero tolerance for open alcohol, consumption, and/or intoxication in any public building of the Exhibition grounds.

37. Entries: most entries will close on the Monday prior to the Tuesday start of Exhibition at 4:30pm. Entry forms should include pre-payment of any weekly passes & trailer park fees. These tickets and passes can be picked up at the office upon your arrival on the grounds once the livestock is stalled in the barns.

BOOTH RENTAL CONTRACT

Persons making use of the Booth space offered during the Shelburne County Exhibition must agree to, and abide by, the rules and regulations of the Association regarding same.

1) All goods, services, information and other materials on display or for sale at the Exhibition must be clearly in good taste and deemed suitable for family viewing. (Should there be any doubt, a decision will be made at the discretion of the SCAA Manager, in consultation with his/her Board of Directors)

2) Booths shall be kept clean, tidy, and in good order by the Booth Personnel in charge of the Booth. Waste receptacles will be provided by the SCAA.

3) Basic electrical power is provided for a limited demand. Extensions cords are the responsibility of the Booth Personnel. Extra power requirements may require an additional charged as seemed necessary by the Manager.

4) The Association will not be held responsible for any injury, loss of property or damage to property while on display at the Exhibition.

5) Booths may be installed on Tuesday of the Exhibition, unless previous arrangements have been made with the Manager.

6) Booths ARE NOT permitted to be dismantled before 9pm on Saturday, the closing day of the Exhibition.

7) A deposit fee of $50 (fifty dollars) is required before a booth is installed. This fee will be returned at 9pm on the final day of Exhibition, providing the leasee has abided by the rules & regulations as set out in this contract. Those in violation of this agreement will forfeit the deposit fee.

8) A limited supply of both tables and chairs are supplied by the Association which should meet the needs of the Booth Personnel.

9) The section of glass in front of the bleachers, overlooking the stage area, is a “clear zone”. No displays are permitted on the glass that may block the stage viewing of the audience.

10) Nails, tacks, staples or any sharp objects are not to be driven into the “puck board” surrounding the rink.11) Booth personnel are required to purchase seasons tickets for themselves.12)Vehicles belonging to Booth Personnel are permitted in the arena area for the

installation and removal of the Booths only. At all other times they must remain outside the Exhibition grounds.

RULES FOR OX & HORSE HAULING

1. All teams are invited to attend the Exhibition. All classes are open to visiting teams.

2. Teamsters cannot be changed for the duration of a pull.

3. All hauling will be on a pound basis.

4. All teams must be weighed & watered as soon as possible after arrival.

5. All teams must be walked on scales. Judge or appointed person will weigh in the cattle.

6. Cattle will be divided equally according to entries into light, medium and heavy classes.

7. Order of pull will be by draw.

8. Only one teamster to each team, but a helper is allowed when hooking to the drag and in case of accident or breakage.

9. No excessive butting of horse teams, at the discretion of the judge.

10. Any teamster deemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to compete.

11. No whips allowed with horses. In the case of oxen, whips may be used but lash must be kept in hand.

12. No cruelty will be tolerated on the grounds to any animals.

13. Lines will be placed 11 feet apart for horse-hauls, 9 feet apart for ox-hauls.

14. Pulling distance for both horse & oxen shall be 36”. Oxen have 3 starts to move the load 36”; horses have 3 starts but load must move 36” in one start.

15. In case of breakage of harness or yoke, after repairs are made, the teamster will be allowed to break the drag loose by a side pull which will not count as one of the three starts.

16. A time limit of 15 minutes will be allowed for each team to complete their pull. If breakage occurs, time off will be allowed.

17. If any animal of any team be so blemished or in poor condition, the judge & committee have the right to eliminate the team from competition.

18. Each swing shall constitute a pull at the judge’s discretion.

19. Minimum starting loads for teams are: heavy draft – weight of the team; light draft – weight of the team.

20. All placings in pulling contests will be made on a percentage basis. All teams to pull in the same direction and pull to finish.

21. A team must be in the hauling position to be disqualified for stepping over the lines. The hauling position means when a teamster is teaming the cattle by being in front of, behind, throwing dirt on, slapping the boxes, or doing anything to startle the oxen, at the judge’s discretion.

22. In the case of a tie, the team that pulls first will be the winner. The heaviest load will be determined by the last successful haul.

23. During pulling contests, only the judge, scorer, announcer, loaders, forklift operator, and one teamster are allowed in the ring. Non-active teamsters are to stay in the seated areas outside of the ring. In the case of horse hauls, helpers will be permitted in the ring but cannot assist in actual teaming or loading of drag.

24. Drug testing can and may be done. Prizes will be withheld pending the result of the drug test and will be forfeited in the event of a positive test. Teamster will be barred from the following year’s exhibition.

25.There will be a $20 stall fee for the ox stall; at the end of the exhibition $10 will be returned when stalls are cleaned on Saturday night.

In judging of eggs, the official Canadian Egg Grade as follows will be used: Grade A: clean eggs, sound in shell.Candling Definition Yolk Distinct: yolk shadows reasonably small and round in shape, maintaining position in center of egg; yolk shall float freely around egg on twirling; mottled yolks or invisible germ spots are not allowed; air cells less than ¼ inch in depth; floating air cells are not allowed. Weight: eggs to be graded and marked “Grade A” shall weigh individually at the rate of 24 ounces and up, to the dozen. 4-H CLASS LIST

General regulations:1. All classes open to Shelburne County 4-H Clubs under the policies of the NS

Dept. of Agriculture.2. Competitions are open to all 4-H Club members of Shelburne County.3. All members who wish to take part in the competition on 4-H Day will meet at the show ring at 10am on Tuesday.

4. Age Limits: Junior – 9 years up to & including 13 years of age as of January 1. Senior–14 years up to 21 years of age as of January 1.5. All members will be granted entrance on 4-H Day by showing their

membership card.6. Members are eligible for those competitions that pertain to the 4-H project in

which they are enrolled for the year.7. Judges reserve the right to place articles in another class if they consider it

necessary.

SHELBURNE COUNTY EXHIBITION LIGHT HORSE SHOW RULESIncluding but not limited to…

1. Judges decision is final

2. The SWRA & Shelburne County Exhibition or its officers will not be responsible for injury, accident, stolen or damaged property of any member, or any other person.

3. Anyone found breaking the rules will be dealt with by the Show Committee, Club Executive and/or Exhibition Manager and/or proper authorities.

4. Absolutely no smoking in the barn.

5. Barn closes to the public at 10pm. Exhibitors are to respect the night watchman.

6. Riders suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to compete.

7. No riding, rough-housing, mounting or riding in the barn.

8. Horses must be lead on the grounds unless in designated riding areas. No riding past the Announcer’s Booth.

9. No horses to be turned around in ring.

10. Barn is to be kept in an orderly fashion. Feed to be stored in secure containers at all times.

11. Stalls must be cleaned before exhibitor leaves. Any damage to stalls or barn caused by horse/pony or exhibitor must be repaired at owner’s expense.

12. Notify ring-master of any tack changes or brief delays to class or class with start without you.

13. Excessive use of artificial aids will be cause for disqualification, at judge’s discretion.

14. Unsportsmanlike conduct and/or inhumane treatment of animal will not be tolerated and will be reported to proper authorities.

15. Any entry not serviceably sound will be asked to leave or present a vet’s certificate of health.16. Points will be accumulated by horse/rider combo. No points awarded to a different rider.

17. Point ties: the number of classes decides first. If a tie still remains, the amount of 1st place will determine the winner.Gymkhana ties: re-run will determine the new time. The first time will be eliminated.

18. There will be a 2-minute time limit to get to the ring once your number is called. Failure to enter will be a disqualification.

19. In all events, horses are urged to enter and leave the ring at a walk.

20. Headgear must be in place at the start of gymkhana classes and remain on the rider. If it becomes unattached, there will be a 3-second penalty.

21. Class entries: when there are 2 riders in a division class, the class will be held. If there is only one rider, they have the option to ride in the next division up (they will be awarded 1st place in their division but will only receive the prize money of the place the judge awarded them). When there are only 2 riders in a class, only the 1st place of $3 will be awarded.

22. Lead Line, Walk Trot and Youth riders may use 2 hands without penalty.

23. There will be no racing in the waiting area.

24. No entry will be permitted to leave until classes end on Saturday.

1. This show will be run by AQHA Rules but not an AQHA Show.2. Anyone under the age of 18 must wear a helmet. Halter & showmanship exempt.3. Proper footwear must be worn.4. All safety rules also apply for Costume Class & Parade.5. Horses must be entered in a minimum of 6 classes to qualify for acceptance.6. Horses & riders ages will be calculated as of January 1 of the show year (must be shown on entry form).7. Proof of registration must accompany entry form to compete in Maritime Bred or Registered Halter.8. Stallions to be shown & handled by a competent handler 18 years or older.9. No horse/pony can be ridden in the same class by more than 1 rider.10. Prizes will be awarded for the “Best-Kept” & “Best-Decorated” stall.
