Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their

fruits.

Matthew 7:15-16aEighth Sunday after Trinity

1  In thee O Lord have I ’ put my ’ trust : let me never be put to confusion, de’liver me ’ in thy ’ righteousness.2  Bow down thine ’ ear to ’ me : make ’ haste· to de’liver ’ me.3  And be thou my strong rock and ’ house of de’fence : that ’ thou ’ mayest ’ save me.

New Testament Reading: Romans 8:12-17So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
