Answer: The picture does represent 3 and 2 making 5. Your child could draw 3 fish or dots in one circle and 2 fish or dots in another. They could have 3 cubes and 2 cubes. They could write the calculation 3 + 2 = 5 or 2 + 3 = 5.

Answer: They could say something like: 3 and 3 make 6.

Answer: They might say: There are only 6 shells. 4 and 3 makes 7 which is one more than 6 so Ismail could not take 4 if Isla takes 3 shells. Isla would need to take 2 or Ismail take 3.

Answer: They might say something like: There are 8 and 2 sea anemones. 8 and 2 are 10.
