Today we are learning to read captions.

2. Practise reading the sentences below about a town. Have a go at drawing pictures to go with them. I have completed an example for you below.

There are lots of sentences here. You do not need to complete all of them - you can choose the ones you’d like to do.

I can run to the park.

I wait for a big red bus.The taxi took me to the shop. The church had a big bell. Cars park all along the road.At night the lights turn on. The fish and chip shop is on the corner.The market is near the church. A fox barks in the park.

Session 2Maths

Today we will be looking at adding numbers within 20. There is even some sharing!Let’s have a go at some of the activities below. You can talk about your answers or write them on a piece of paper.

Answer: The picture does represent 3 and 2 making 5. Your child could draw 3 fish or dots in one circle and 2 fish or dots in another. They could have 3 cubes and 2 cubes. They could write the calculation 3 + 2 = 5 or 2 + 3 = 5.

Answer: They could say something like: 3 and 3 make 6.

Answer: They might say: There are only 6 shells. 4 and 3 makes 7 which is one more than 6 so Ismail could not take 4 if Isla takes 3 shells. Isla would need to take 2 or Ismail take 3.

Answer: They might say something like: There are 8 and 2 sea anemones. 8 and 2 are 10.

Lastly, have a go at these addition word problems. Explain your thinking to your grown up.

1. With your adult, try and describe each stage in a sentence underneath each picture. Can you write your sentence down? I have given an example below.

2. Draw a picture of your favourite part of the story. Challenge yourself to write a sentence about why this is your favourite part.

Here is an example:

My favourite part of the story is when the caterpillar eats all of the yummy fruit. I like it because the fruit looks really juicy!
