This news report is an ITV report from 2002 about a fire in Buckingham palace, the studio newsreader is dressed formally and maintains eye contact because it gives a more realistic face to face interaction and direct feed of information. The mode of address to the viewer is very personalised because we as inhabitants of Britain will have an interest in a place as

monumental, iconic and valuable to the country, this establishes a connection with the audience, especially as it’s a threat/danger situation which complies with the guidelines of what makes top/headline news. There is a specific report structure where it opens with the bulk of the most important information ‘A fire that broke out in Buckingham Palace has been contained by firefighters’ it goes straight into the point and summarises the whole of the story in a sentence. This news report is different to the ITV report, the predominate footage shown is actuality footage, this is useful because it backs up what they’re saying and gives the viewer at home a vision of what the news readers are talking about without having to give as many specifics because the footage speaks for itself, without actuality footage it would be more

difficult to understand exactly what the stories about, it starts off with just actuality footage and once we’ve had a brief overview of the surroundings and situation. Then we are faced with a split screen which also has a field reporter giving a live feedback which has a positive impact on the mode of address because it brings out the characteristic that news thrives for, first hand onscreen coverage of whats happening, the mode of address and perception of this particular news report could be considered ‘Observational’ the camera man is following a person with the relevant information about what is occurring. Although there is a voiceover for additional information and facts that could not be caught on screen.
