The word alumni is derived from Latin noun alumnus, which means “foster son, pupil”. In this way an alumni association is an association of the foster sons of a university or and educational institution. In fact, these associations perform a very pious function of connecting and reconnecting its alumni with each other and with the university. They serve as a vehicle by which the alumni participate in each other’s lives and the life of the university and express their loyalty and underlying affection for their alma-mater. They often organise social events, get together, publish newsletters, host web-portals and devise a variety of activities for bringing the alumni and the university to come together or share ideas/information for mutual benefit and growth.

The Alumni Association, Faculty of Education has been consistently striving for last 10 years to increase the ambit of its activities. An association which started its activities with a handful of members is today a strong association of around one thousand life membership. It has been regularly organizing successful annual meets each year, besides holding a national seminar and regular publication of news letter without a break ever since its inception. The association also provides a web platform to the alumni of the faculty to not only post their achievements but also share views and register online.

I hope that in this decennial meet the alumni who meet shall consider a fact that the best top 10 universities of the world today are governed by their alumni. This reveals the contribution that alumni can make towards achieving institutional excellence. Since the alumni are not only the true ambassadors of any institution in the society, they are also those whose loyalty and commitment towards their alma-mater is unmatched, it is important alumni take the responsibility of contributing for the development of university they benefitted from. Once such a culture of alumni concern and their involvement in the university affairs develops only than we can expect our universities to excel and compete with the best in the world.

On this decennial meet, I congratulate all the members and office bearers of the Alumni Association, Faculty of Education for the wonderful work that has been done so far and also wish good luck for its future growth and development.

Prof. Asha Pandey Founder President AAE,BHU

It is an honour and privilege to celebrate the 10th year of our Alumni Association at the Faculty of Education, B.H.U. We number among the younger alumni associations of established universities but it is also true that some of our alumni are counted amongst the most erudite and accomplished people in this country. Sri Harivansh Rai Bachchan comes to mind immediately, as do so many others.

So, today, it is with a sense of both, pride in our work and humility at thought of those illustrious alumni who have preceded us that I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our alumni. We have a very rich legacy and lineage to live up to and in the years to come, I am sure we can look forward to a rich flowering of the same values that made us what we are today. Our annual seminar and award nurture these values and give us firm roots, which, in turn, will nurture future generations.

With heartfelt congratulations and wishes for a bright future.

Prof. Asha Pandey
