Dear Cardinal Family,

Is anyone out there? Hello?

When we were in remote learning, one of our many concerns was how to gauge studentengagement on the other side of a Zoom. A common inclination for high school students wasto turn off their video and mute their sound. There could've been a variety of valid reasons whykids took these steps, but for our staff, it was unnerving. I got to experience that same feeling on Wednesday night. We were excited to welcome ourfuture freshmen and their families to a virtual curriculum night and open house. Obviously, wewere missing some of the most fun elements of the evening. There was no buzz of the crowdin the auditorium, and no awestruck 8th graders navigating our massive building. night. We had enthusiastic families and staff members who are all eager for what the futureholds.

Even though the format was quite different--giving a presentation to dozens of dark, mutedscreens is about as gratifying as it sounds--I still walked away with my usual feelings. I remainthankful for all the opportunities our community provides our kids and I'm excited about whatlies ahead for all of us!

Have a great weekend.
