22 / January-March 2016 News letter 1 Meeting with Mr Eric BARBé, President of SEAFRIGO 1) The Seafrigo Group is one of the major assets for business in Le Havre in the food sector: can you tell us more about your activities? Group created in 1976 Specializing in international food logistics Trades: sea and air freight forwarding, warehousing, customs clearance, trucking, port haulage Destinations: North and Latin America, French Overseas ‘Départements’ and Territories, Africa, Middle-East, Asia, Oceania Services: temperature-controlled groupage services, labelling, quality grading, container consolidation, etc. In line with our precursor status, Seafrigo was the first to launch freight consolidation services at positive or negative controlled temperatures to a wide range of destinations. Our platforms provide great flexibility through the many services we offer for both imports and exports. These services are available at any temperature since SD’LOG, our subsidiary specialized in food flows at room temperature, is a major player in the wines and spirits market and in export management for the supermarket sector. As such Seafrigo is now recognized as a specialist in its sector in France and abroad. 2) You are increasing your presence in HAROPA ports; what are the motivations for your choice and what are the prospects for growth on the international markets? Le Havre is historically the core focus for our development, because that’s where our key facilities and head offices are located. Le Havre naturally provides import services for the Ile-de-France region and for exports benefits from its close ties with some of the key regions in the food industry. The port has ideal shipping connections with a large number of direct lines and the advantage of being the last port on the North Range when leaving Europe. That being said, controlling flows at the destination is just as important so that the service we provide for our customers is complete. It is not enough to set sail and keep track of the ship from afar in the hope that it arrives safely; there must be a reliable crew at the destination with whom information can be transmitted upstream and downstream. Seafrigo also has offices in Newark (Port of New York), as well as in Hong Kong and Australia where our local teams have multi-temperature warehouses, fleets of trucks, and teams specializing in air freight for example. Our offices in Singapore, Brazil, Montreal, Shanghai, and our special partnerships with equally specialized local companies, can take over at the destination port. The objective is to manage our customers’ flows from start to finish and answer all and any of their special requests. The movement is continuous since a second warehouse plus a frozen food cutting plant will soon open in Newark, and our Mexico office is expected to start operations during the year. Meanwhile our presence within the European Community is being consolidated and increased as we now have locations at Fos-sur-Mer with a multi-temperature platform, as well as in Belgium and the Netherlands since last November, the next step being to open in Spain. 3) How does HAROPA help you to ensure your customer satisfaction? First of all I should like to report the excellent progress made in recent years in general, from labour relations to investments in infrastructure, consultation with public authorities (customs, health and plant health services) and a dynamic communication policy have all made significant contributions to restoring and promoting confidence in the port of Le Havre and HAROPA. The many awards obtained by HAROPA in Asia, the fact that the port was one of the first to obtain ISO 28000 certification, its participation in trade shows with the possibility for operators such as Seafrigo to be present as co-exhibitor etc., all give a very positive and dynamic image, totally different from the situation ten years ago. And the potential is there to go even further. - www.pixell.fr

Conventional reefers return to Le Havre after 25 years of absence!

The Port of Le Havre is not just specialised in container traffic, the proof being the unloading on the wharf of the Lower Seine Cold Storage Warehouses (EFBS - CONDIGEL Group) of 1,100 palletized tonnes of frozen seafood products to be loaded onto the Norwegian conventional reefer, the Silver Framnes. The entire batch was offloaded in one day without breaking the cold chain. The operation therefore a success for the 3 main companies involved: EFBS (the orderer), CHaLLENGE International, and the goods handler CNMP. an occasion to underline the fact that this type of vessel has not called at Port of Le Havre for more than 25 years!

Increasingly efficient berthing capacityHarOPa - Port of rouen now has an enlarged swinging area (allowing ships to make u-turns) and is able to berth ships of increasing size.

On 20 February, the bulk carrier Fernandina (289 meters long) marked the first operational commissioning of the new swinging area of Hautot-sur-Seine, located fifteen kilometres south of rouen, opposite the Container and General Cargo Terminal in Grand-Couronne. The official inauguration will take place in Spring 2016, once the development work on the riverbank have been completed.

The work forms part of the large-scale project to the improve access for shipping to HarOPa - Port of rouen, with the deepening of the channel which is to be completed in 2018. Doing so is one of the issues at stake in response to the modernization of the world fleet and will help to sustain the strategic positioning of rouen on the bulk, petroleum products and multi-purpose & break-bulk vessel sectors.

2015 Review: HAROPA confirms its position as the leading port complex in France

With shipping standing at 91.4 Mt, up 2.4% from the previous year, 2015 was a year of growth for HarOPa. Promising outlooks for development are already visible in 2016, in particular due to increased investment by both the private and public sectors.

Satisfied sector, increasing numbers of customers

a satisfaction survey was carried out among the 53 members of the Out-Of-Gauge Cargo working group, created in 2012. The survey evaluated the quality of the exchanges of information (procedures, availability of mobile facilities, etc.), the quality of the responses and solutions provided, and the quality of trade: the highly positive assessment of the respondents substantiates the approach adopted by HarOPa to be as attentive as possible to customers, enabling the Port of Le Havre to be the benchmark for out-of-gauge cargo and industrial projects.

A bridge in Martinique

Proof of that dynamism and confidence can be seen in the transshipment of 36 out-of-gauge cargo items (representing over 400 tonnes) in the port of Le Havre on 10 March last. The loads were initially placed on fifteen different 40’ Mafi trailers and then transferred in Le Havre to be loaded onto the HOEGH Beijin bound for Martinique (for the construction of Preacher Bridge). The Port of Le Havre was chosen not only for the reliability of its port facilities specially designed for heavy-lift cargo but also for its more regular shipping service to the French overseas departments (DOM).

1 June 2017 coming soon!

On 1 February, a mast-stepping ceremony for the MSC Meraviglia was held in Saint Nazaire: the ancient shipping tradition consists in putting coins at the base of a mast of a ship under construction to bring her luck. The ceremony took place in the presence of Gianluigi aponte, President of MSC, Pierfrancesco Vago, CEO of MSC Cruises, Emmanuel Macron, French Minister of the Economy, Edouard Philippe, Mayor of Le Havre and Laurent Castaing, CEO of STX France. The new ship will be christened in Le Havre, on 1 June 2017, when the city will be celebrating its 500th anniversary. More than ever, the cruise trade in the Port of Le Havre is making a contribution to the drive and global reach of HarOPa Ports.

HAROPA: the Chemical place to be!

With the support of the Le Havre Shipping and Port Confederation (uMEP), and organized by the HarOPa Commercial & Marketing Division, the 1st HarOPa «Chemicals» Working Group was launched on 24 February last. Its objectives: to formalize, enhance and promote the availability and expertise of the Le Havre chemicals community, and develop the flows and ecosystem of the sector in the Port. It is positioned to complement the work of the Dangerous Goods Committee of the uMEP which focuses more on the regulatory aspects.

With these constructive and concrete objectives in mind, some twenty providers in the supply chain and sector met at the Espace andré Graillot. Bruno Vitali, Sales Manager for CHaLLENGE International and Chairman of the uMEP Dangerous Goods Committee, was appointed President of the group.

HarOPa wants to continue the development of this sector on the Seine corridor and support companies in their projects, an aim that is clearly identified in its 2014-2019 strategic plan.

With the support of the uMEP and the rouen Port Confederation (uPr), meetings of other working groups are regularly held for the various sectors: Second-hand vehicles - Fruit - Out-Of-Gauge Cargo - Waste and second-hand products.

HAROPA, the main port hub for agro-industrial products in France

In terms of bulk and conventional traffic, the positioning of HarOPa ports as an agro-industrial hub was further strengthened in 2015. In addition to the export grain traffic, HarOPa is also an area for the processing and transit of various agricultural products, making it the main port hub for agro-industrial products in France.

HAROPA terminals have recognized know-how in the handling, storage, preparation and distribution of a wide range of produ :• Whether for processed grain products (malt, milling, semolina), • products for animal feed (rapeseed meal, distiller’s grain, gluten meal, beet pulp, etc.), • various edible oils (sunflower, rapeseed, etc.), • biofuels, • sugar or imported products such as cocoa, coffee or animal feed,

The agro-industrial port hub is complemented by numerous processing plants located directly behind the docks, including agribusiness majors such as Téréos, Cargill, Saipol, Soufflet, Lustucru, etc., with numerous opportunities for site set-up and development still possible on HarOPa terminals.

Korea / Japan Trade Mission

a major trade mission took place from 7 to 11 March, covering two major strategic business areas for HarOPa: Korea and Japan.a trade delegation came to meet Korean providers in the shipping, transport, logistics and ro-ro sectors in order to present the solutions proposed by the 5th largest port complex in Northern Europe at a Business Event held in Seoul on March 8.

In front of a packed room, Hervé Martel, Vice-President of HarOPa, Hervé Cornède, Commercial & Marketing Director, and in the presence of His Excellency the ambassador of France in Korea, Fabien Penone, recalled the high quality of the trade relations with South Korea:

• Traffic rose by 14% between 2014 and 2015: good news for a year which celebrated 130 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and France

• 53% of the total traffic in containerized flows (import / export) between HarOPa and asia

• 84% of the volumes between HarOPa / Korea transit through the port of Busan.

In Japan, in Tokyo, in BtoB meetings with the key decision centres for Japanese industry, shipping companies and logistics, Hervé Martel recalled HarOPa’s position as the leader for transit times with Japan (31 days for Kobe, Nagoya for 33 days) with 120 shipping services and 17 shipping companies with connections in Japan.

• Traffic between HAROPA and Japan is relatively stable, but nonetheless increased by 2% between 2014/2015

• Tokyo remains the ‘leader’ port for HAROPA with 41% of the total traffic with Japan.

With connections to more than 600 ports worldwide, including 180 in asia via regular shipping lines, HarOPa has the widest range of shipping services in Northern Europe.
