 CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGES. The main cause of climate change is the greenhouse

effect.

This is the warming of the surface or lower atmosphere of a planet.

This is caused by air pollution. When you burn fossil fuels, you produce greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, etc. the sun doesn’t infrared some of these gases and they are trapped on the lower atmosphere, thus rising temperatures worldwide.

Industrial Air Pollution

Contaminants pouring from industrial smokestacks contribute to the world’s atmospheric pollution.

Some of these contaminants, such as carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, are greenhouse gases.

Once in the atmosphere, these gases act to retain the long-wave radiation (heat) emitted by Earth in a process known as the greenhouse effect.

PESTICIDES

Pesticides Many farmers use chemicals called pesticides to kill insects that harm crops. But some of these chemicals can harm the environment by poisoning soil and water and killing wildlife. Here, a tractor sprays a potato field with pesticide.

ACID RAIN Acid Rain is a type of pollution that can harm trees, poison animals, and even cause death.

•Polluted Water. The pollution of rivers, streams, and oceans has become a serious problem around the world.

Pollution can come from many sources, including factories, farms, sewage, and illegal dumping.
