Activity Two – Explore how writers create interesting characters - In this lesson, we read a section of our 'Honey and Trouble' story as a writer, thinking of how the woman has been described, using our writing toolkit, before adding to our monkey adjective list and writing independent sentences. Activity Three – Develop character in a story (Part 1) - In this lesson, we use our adjective list, and everything we have learned from the character writing toolkit, to start writing a description of the monkey, focusing first on his physical appearance and dress. Maths Activities Developing our maths skills of adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers Remember you can use the 100-square from last week’s learning pack to help you. Activity One – Adding two 2-digit numbers - In this lesson we will be identifying which known number bonds will help us to add two 2-digit numbers and use known facts to derive new addition facts. If you wish, you can also have a go at the ’Adding two 2-digit numbers’ sheet below. Activity Two – Subtracting two 2-digit numbers - In this lesson we will be identifying which known number bonds will help us subtract a 2-digit number from a 2-digit number. After this session, if you wish, you can also have a go at the ’Subtracting two 2-digit numbers’ sheet below. Activity Three – Exploring strategies to add three 1-digit numbers - In this lesson, we will be applying our knowledge of strategies such as number bonds to 10 and 20, doubles and near doubles to add three 1-digit numbers. Honey and Trouble: Thinking about characters in stories

Activity One –

Box up for purpose - In this lesson, we 'box up' our story of 'Honey and Trouble', focusing on how

the monkey feels at different points in the story, and what this tells us about his character.

Activity Two –

Explore how writers create interesting characters - In this lesson, we read a section of our

'Honey and Trouble' story as a writer, thinking of how the woman has been described, using our

help us to add two 2-digit numbers and use known facts to derive new addition facts.

If you wish, you can also have a go at the ’Adding two 2-digit numbers’ sheet below.

Activity Two –

Subtracting two 2-digit numbers - In this lesson we will be identifying which known number bonds

RE Activities

Come and See – Books

Week 3:

Talk about these books which are used in church and look at the provided images below.

• Altar Missal: the book that contains the prayers the priest uses during Mass.

• Lectionary: the book containing a collection of scripture readings.

• Book of the Gospels: the Gospel stories that are used for the celebration of Mass and

Sacraments.

• Hymn Books: used by the parish family to sing together

The Lectern is the stand from which the Word of God is proclaimed.

Task: Design a simple information leaflet about the books we use at church and describe how and

why these books are used.

Ongoing and online activities

The following activities are further consolidation of skills taught in class and can be completed daily

(10/15 minutes at the most).

Maths Skills Practise

Helicopter Rescue - Have a go at this

game to help you to identify and work

with numbers up to 100.

Measuring in Centimetres - Keep

working hard to learn to use a ruler

accurately.

Shifting Shapes – Can you name the

2D and 3D shapes? The game has a

draggable torch shining on a hidden

shape. You can move the torch to

guess the name of the shape and then

click the 'eye' to see if you were

right.

Abacus Active Learn –

You can continue to use the maths

games on abacus active learn.

Completed games are stored in the

library section for you to revisit.

Children’s usernames are the first

four letters of their first name and

the first four letters of their

surname.

Password: Flowers School Code: 7g9l

Spelling Practise

Please see your child’s spelling

words sent via dojo message. You

could practice your spellings using

some of the ideas below:

Puzzle maker: Go onto this website,

enter the weekly spellings and then

have fun searching for them in the

puzzle.

Trace, Copy, Recall: Fold a piece of

paper into three columns and label

them trace, copy and recall. Write the

word in the first column and have your

child trace it. Next, get them to copy

the word in the next column by looking

back at the letters. Finally, get them

to fold and hide the first two columns

and practise writing the word in the

final column.

Spelling Word Race: Create two teams

with a player from each team taking

the ‘pen’ at a time. Someone calls out

the word and the two players race to

write the word first.

Phonics Practise

Watch and join in with this

lesson about ‘e-e’ Watch and join in with this

lesson about ‘ie’

Reading Practise

Oxford Owl eBook Library-

This eBook library is free for

parents, you will need to

register and create an account

for your child to access these

books.

Please have a go at the

suggested book title sent via

dojo message.

Topic Learning

Please see the activities on the ‘Dinosaurs Topic Grid’ below and complete one of the activities

during these three days.

Dinosaurs Topic Grid

Write a fact file about 1 or more dinosaurs.

Include: -name of dinosaur - what they eat - size

-what they look like

Create a picture of a dinosaur using collage

materials (for example paper, tissue paper,

straws, buttons, feathers, foil etc)

Draw a dinosaur using 2D shapes. You could

include a list of the shapes you have used. For a

challenge, describe their properties using

mathematical language such as sides and corners.

Find out what herbivore, carnivore and omnivore

means. Sort different dinosaurs into carnivores,

herbivores or omnivores. Put them into a table

headed carnivores/ herbivores / omnivores

listing them underneath.

Create some dinosaur

Maths problems: For example:

If one dinosaur has 4 legs, how many legs will 10

dinosaurs have?

Draw and label a dinosaur’s body parts

(leg, head, tail, horns etc)

Find 5 facts about Mary Anning.

You can decide how to present your work and the

fascinating facts you find.

Draw a picture of a fossil hunter and label the

tools they might take on a trip

(e.g magnifying glass, brush, chisel etc).

Write a list of 5 ‘golden rules’ for living in the

Jurassic Forest. These rules could suggest how

to behave and how to protect/look after the

environment.

Pretend that you have just returned from a

fossil hunt. Can you write about your adventure

as a fossil hunter.

Use ‘JIT’ by logging on to your HwB account and

design and draw your own dinosaur. Can you add

text to write about what it looks like, what it

eats and where it lives.

Make a 3D model of a dinosaur using

construction toys e.g. Lego or junk e.g.

cardboard boxes, bottles and yoghurt pots.

Take a photo to show what you made.

Find out which is the most popular dinosaur in

your house and record the results as a block

graph. You can use ‘JIT chart’ on HwB to help

you record your findings in a block graph.

P4C @ home – Listen to the story of ‘Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish’.

Think about; What does ‘trust’ mean?

Now think about how we are trusted to keep our environment clean i.e. picking up/putting rubbish in

bins, keeping our classroom tidy. Possibly extend into wider global theme of caring for our world.

Create a mind-map or poster to show others what we need to do to care for our environment.

To carry out any of the research activities you can use the Britannica Digital learning tool on HwB.
