Welcome” initiative. Commissioners have begun to visit local businesses, service providers, and community gathering places asking people to join in the effort to create a safe and welcoming city by displaying an “All Are Welcome” window decal in a visible location. Their requests have been met with resounding support!

As your Mayor, I am so proud of our city. I am proud that we live in a community where all people are honored for their individual backgrounds, experiences, skills, and contributions. We are making great efforts to increase equity, remove barriers, and provide a welcoming and safe environment. It is our duty to ensure that all people are treated fairly and have an opportunity to live their lives with dignity, free from discrimination or hate. On April 23, the City marked its 60th anniversary of incorporation with a celebration at Heritage Park that included a ribbon cutting for the new playground funded by a generous donation from the Elizabeth Ruth Wallace Living Trust. Heritage Park celebrates the agricultural, transportation and social heritage of Lynnwood from its roots in the rural community of Alderwood Manor formed in 1919. Heritage exhibits throughout the park tell stories of life in early Alderwood Manor, and its historic structures have been renovated and repurposed as community resource facilities. Currently on display through the remainder of 2019, is an 9-panel historical timeline of Lynnwood’s incorporated history. The timeline is open for viewing in the Wickers Building on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 9am-3pm.

During your visit to Heritage Park, be sure to check out the Northwest Veterans Museum, Lynnwood-Alderwood Manor Heritage Association, Sno-Isle Genealogical Society, and the Interurban Car #55. Fun History & Heritage Day events will be hosted from 11am–3pm on Saturdays, June 8, July 13, and August 10.

National Night Out Tuesday evening, August 6

National Night Out Against Crime will be celebrated all across America on Tuesday evening, August 6. During National Night Out (NNO) residents turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and go out to meet their neighbors in the name of crime prevention. The Lynnwood Police Department, in partnership with South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue, and other city departments, encourages residents to organize a neighborhood event to bring neighbors together. By involving several households in each neighborhood everyone shares in the fun of creating a real community building “block party.” It could be as simple as a dessert potluck in a garage, hot dogs grilling poolside at an apartment complex, or a barbeque gathering in a driveway.

The LPD and its partners try to visit as many neighborhoods as possible to connect with residents during this fun event.

Water Quality Report The City of Lynnwood’s Consumer Confidence Report (Water Quality Report) is

now available to customers online and at City Hall. The Annual Water Quality Report is a performance measure of the quality of water supplied by the City of Lynnwood. The report describes local drinking water sources, testing conducted on the water, allowable limits of

substances, substances detected, and the levels of those substances.

The Public Works Department is hosting an Online Open House regarding the Water Comprehensive Plan Update. Visit http://LynnwoodWater.Participate.Online.

Par4Kids Golf Tournament The Lynnwood Parks and Recreation Foundation is partnering with the Rotary Club of Lynnwood to host the annual Par 4 Kids Golf Tournament on Friday, August 2 at the Lynnwood Municipal Golf Course. The event is sponsored by Swedish Edmonds Hospital and benefits the City’s Recreation Benefit Scholarship Fund. This fund provides financial assistance for all of the recreation programs the city offers.

Lynnwood's History & Heritage Board visit the new playground at Heritage Park

Lynnwood University is a fun and interactive 5-week course offered to residents free of charge. The goal of Lynnwood University is to increase awareness about how your local government works and to empower you to better access City programs and services. Demonstrations, tours, lectures, and hands-on activities are presented to you by city staff, Council Members and the Mayor.

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood City Council. We have been busy, and the year isn’t even halfway through.

Lynnwood is changing and growing, and our focus is on looking ahead as far as practical to help lay the ground work for a successful future; while still honoring our past.

As we do that, our greatest need is for your input. We meet every Monday night (barring Federal holidays) at City Hall starting at 7pm. You are welcome to come to the Work Sessions and Business meetings. The Work Sessions are less formal where Council typically discusses items that will be on the agenda at the next Business Meeting. Work Sessions are a great way to become familiar with the issues we will be discussing and acting upon at the next Business Meeting and are also typically where we ask city staff questions to make changes or clarifications. By attending (or listening to the audio of the Work Sessions on line) both the Work Session and the Business meetings, you can gain a greater depth of understanding surrounding an issue or issues if they are important to you or impact your neighborhood. Please come and meet us, talk with us, let us know things that you want to see changed, improved and where you see Lynnwood heading in the future.

As Lynnwood grows and changes it will be increasingly important that we are future and legacy minded in all that we do. We enjoy today the roads that were built by our predecessors, and we play and enjoy recreation activities in parks on land donated or paid for by those that have come before us. As we grow and change as a City we, as a community, need to think about the kind of City we want to leave to our children, and our children’s children. So when they are our age, and realize the foresight of their predecessors, they too will think to leave a legacy for the next generations that follow them. And that is how we will build a better and stronger Lynnwood; together, as a community, looking to the bright future that lies ahead.

We thank all those who have come to our meetings and given us feedback on all the issues currently under review and discussion, we are grateful for all those who diligently volunteer and serve our Community, and we look forward to meeting and hearing from many more of you as you engage and get involved in our Community.

Council Highlights Feb–Apr

City Council Work Sessions are held the 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays of the month and the third Wednesdays from 7-10pm. Council Business Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month from 7-10pm at the City Hall Council Chambers, 19100 – 44th Avenue West, Lynnwood. Council Business Meetings are broadcast on Comcast Channel 21 and FIOS/Frontier Channel 38, on Wednesdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 7:00am and 2:00pm. This year marks the 3rd year the City of Lynnwood has raised and released Coho Salmon at our Hatchery and Environmental Education Center on Halls Lake. These Coho salmon will spend the next two years in freshwater before eventually migrating downstream into Lake Washington and out into the Puget Sound. Bruce Lawson, a resident of Halls Lake, has been rearing and releasing salmon into Halls Lake for the past 28 years. 3 years ago, he teamed up with

the city to help raise the fish and offer educational opportunities to students.

Each year we host several field trips where grade school students get to release these fish into the lake. We partner with Nature Vision to provide students with an in-classroom presentation followed by a fish release field trip. Our goal is to teach students about water quality and the impacts humans have on the health of our

waters including the adverse effects of stormwater runoff. Students are able to see and hold a salmon before releasing it into the wild, giving them a tangible connection to local surface waters and the health of our water bodies.

City Center Redevelopment Becoming a RealityThe vision of a vibrant area of mixed-use residential and commercial space as a central core of Lynnwood began in 2005 with the adoption of the City Center Plan. That vision is now becoming a reality and projects have begun to take form. Sound Transit’s Lynnwood Link Extension project prepares to break ground, and more projects are expected to capitalize on the convenient and reliable access to Downtown Seattle.

So, what can you expect in the City Center over the next ten years? The City Center will continue to be major thoroughfares for 196th Street

and 44th Avenue, but new side streets will be developed to ease congestion. These new roads and improvements to the thoroughfares will provide safe walking routes for people to better access shopping, restaurants, office space, and residential areas. One significant change is the increase of housing options near the Lynnwood City Center Station. These housing options will provide opportunities for people to live, work, and play all within one neighborhood of Lynnwood.

Another change you can expect over the next ten years is the character of the buildings will change in shape and form.

With the increased demand for housing and mixed-use projects, the buildings will become larger, and surface parking lots will be replaced with structured parking. To prevent big and blocky buildings, the City has been working to update design standards to represent the high-quality character of Lynnwood.

The next ten years will be exciting to witness the renaissance of the new Lynnwood City Center!

Fish Hatchery at Halls Lake Provides Education & Connection

Construction season is gearing up and there are several major projects in and around Lynnwood that may impact your

daily commute. These major infrastructure projects will greatly improve road conditions and prepare our City for future growth.

36th Ave W Improvement ProjectConstruction continues at a good pace. This project includes improved subgrade and pavement surface, continuous ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps, and improvements to transit stops including bus pullouts. Two significant features of the project include a new signalize traffic intersection at Maple Road/179th St SW, and a new roundabout at 172nd St SW as well as replanting of native vegetation; and a public art feature. Project completion anticipated for late 2019.

196th St SW Improvement ProjectThe project will add two additional lanes, a center median, wider sidewalks, and landscape features with a boulevard appearance. It will help accommodate growth in our City Center and create an enhanced pedestrian environment with a boulevard appearance. Construction anticipated to begin Fall 2019.

Sewer & Lift Station ImprovementsLift Station 4 and 8, both located near Alderwood Mall, will have significant improvements to allow for increased capacity, as well as additional sewer mains connecting them to Lift Station 10. The sewer line upgrade work is nearing completion, and work continues on the force main and lift stations.

2019 Paving ProgramThe 2019 Overlay and Curb Ramps project will rehabilitate city streets by repaving the most severe locations first and upgrading curb ramps to be compliant with current ADA requirements.

Lynnwood Link Extension ProjectOn April 8, 2019, the Lynnwood City Council adopted an ordinance to enter into a Development and Access Enhancements Funding Agreement between the City of Lynnwood and Sound Transit regarding the Lynnwood Link Light Rail Extension Project.

Sound Transit has begun early work on permit review for underground utilities, critical areas, and tree clearing around the Lynnwood Transit Center, and you can expect to see construction activity beginning very soon.

The Development Agreement provides the City of Lynnwood with $2.5 million dollars in matching funds from Sound Transit to fund access enhancements in the vicinity of the Lynnwood City Center Station.

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood City Council. We have been busy, and the year isn’t even halfway through.

Lynnwood is changing and growing, and our focus is on looking ahead as far as practical to help lay the ground work for a successful future; while still honoring our past.

As we do that, our greatest need is for your input. We meet every Monday night (barring Federal holidays) at City Hall starting at 7pm. You are welcome to come to the Work Sessions and Business meetings. The Work Sessions are less formal where Council typically discusses items that will be on the agenda at the next Business Meeting. Work Sessions are a great way to become familiar with the issues we will be discussing and acting upon at the next Business Meeting and are also typically where we ask city staff questions to make changes or clarifications. By attending (or listening to the audio of the Work Sessions on line) both the Work Session and the Business meetings, you can gain a greater depth of understanding surrounding an issue or issues if they are important to you or impact your neighborhood. Please come and meet us, talk with us, let us know things that you want to see changed, improved and where you see Lynnwood heading in the future.

As Lynnwood grows and changes it will be increasingly important that we are future and legacy minded in all that we do. We enjoy today the roads that were built by our predecessors, and we play and enjoy recreation activities in parks on land donated or paid for by those that have come before us. As we grow and change as a City we, as a community, need to think about the kind of City we want to leave to our children, and our children’s children. So when they are our age, and realize the foresight of their predecessors, they too will think to leave a legacy for the next generations that follow them. And that is how we will build a better and stronger Lynnwood; together, as a community, looking to the bright future that lies ahead.

City Council Work Sessions are held the 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays of the month and the third Wednesdays from 7-10pm. This year marks the 3rd year the City of Lynnwood has raised and released Coho Salmon at our Hatchery and Environmental Education Center on Halls Lake. These Coho salmon will spend the next two years in freshwater before eventually migrating downstream into Lake Washington and out into the Puget Sound. Bruce Lawson, a resident of Halls Lake, has been rearing and releasing salmon into Halls Lake for the past 28 years. 3 years ago, he teamed up with

the city to help raise the fish and offer educational opportunities to students.

Each year we host several field trips where grade school students get to release these fish into the lake. We partner with Nature Vision to provide students with an in-classroom presentation followed by a fish release field trip. Our goal is to teach students about water quality and the impacts humans have on the health of our

waters including the adverse effects of stormwater runoff. Students are able to see and hold a salmon before releasing it into the wild, giving them a tangible connection to local surface waters and the health of our water bodies.

City Center Redevelopment Becoming a RealityThe vision of a vibrant area of mixed-use residential and commercial space as a central core of Lynnwood began in 2005 with the adoption of the City Center Plan. That vision is now becoming a reality and projects have begun to take form. Sound Transit’s Lynnwood Link Extension project prepares to break ground, and more projects are expected to capitalize on the convenient and reliable access to Downtown Seattle.

So, what can you expect in the City Center over the next ten years? The City Center will continue to be major thoroughfares for 196th Street

and 44th Avenue, but new side streets will be developed to ease congestion. These new roads and improvements to the thoroughfares will provide safe walking routes for people to better access shopping, restaurants, office space, and residential areas. One significant change is the increase of housing options near the Lynnwood City Center Station. These housing options will provide opportunities for people to live, work, and play all within one neighborhood of Lynnwood.

Another change you can expect over the next ten years is the character of the buildings will change in shape and form.

With the increased demand for housing and mixed-use projects, the buildings will become larger, and surface parking lots will be replaced with structured parking. To prevent big and blocky buildings, the City has been working to update design standards to represent the high-quality character of Lynnwood.

The next ten years will be exciting to witness the renaissance of the new Lynnwood City Center!

Construction season is gearing up and there are several major projects in and around Lynnwood that may impact your

daily commute. These major infrastructure projects will greatly improve road conditions and prepare our City for future growth.

36th Ave W Improvement ProjectConstruction continues at a good pace. This project includes improved subgrade and pavement surface, continuous ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps, and improvements to transit stops including bus pullouts. Two significant features of the project include a new signalize traffic intersection at Maple Road/179th St SW, and a new roundabout at 172nd St SW as well as replanting of native vegetation; and a public art feature. Project completion anticipated for late 2019.

196th St SW Improvement ProjectThe project will add two additional lanes, a center median, wider sidewalks, and landscape features with a boulevard appearance. It will help accommodate growth in our City Center and create an enhanced pedestrian environment with a boulevard appearance. Construction anticipated to begin Fall 2019.

Sewer & Lift Station ImprovementsLift Station 4 and 8, both located near Alderwood Mall, will have significant improvements to allow for increased capacity, as well as additional sewer mains connecting them to Lift Station 10. The sewer line upgrade work is nearing completion, and work continues on the force main and lift stations.

2019 Paving ProgramThe 2019 Overlay and Curb Ramps project will rehabilitate city streets by repaving the most severe locations first and upgrading curb ramps to be compliant with current ADA requirements.

Lynnwood Link Extension ProjectOn April 8, 2019, the Lynnwood City Council adopted an ordinance to enter into a Development and Access Enhancements Funding Agreement between the City of Lynnwood and Sound Transit regarding the Lynnwood Link Light Rail Extension Project.

Sound Transit has begun early work on permit review for underground utilities, critical areas, and tree clearing around the Lynnwood Transit Center, and you can expect to see construction activity beginning very soon.

The Development Agreement provides the City of Lynnwood with $2.5 million dollars in matching funds from Sound Transit to fund access enhancements in the vicinity of the Lynnwood City Center Station.

Their requests have been met with resounding support!

As your Mayor, I am so proud of our city. I am proud that we live in a community where all people are honored for their individual backgrounds, experiences, skills, and contributions. We are making great efforts to increase equity, remove barriers, and provide a welcoming and safe environment. It is our duty to ensure that all people are treated fairly and have an opportunity to live their lives with dignity, free from discrimination or hate. On April 23, the City marked its 60th anniversary of incorporation with a celebration at Heritage Park that included a ribbon cutting for the new playground funded by a generous donation from the Elizabeth Ruth Wallace Living Trust. Heritage Park celebrates the agricultural, transportation and social heritage of Lynnwood from its roots in the rural community of Alderwood Manor formed in 1919. Heritage exhibits throughout the park tell stories of life in early Alderwood Manor, and its historic structures have been renovated and repurposed as community resource facilities. Currently on display through the remainder of 2019, is an 9-panel historical timeline of Lynnwood’s incorporated history. The timeline is open for viewing in the Wickers Building on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 9am-3pm.

During your visit to Heritage Park, be sure to check out the Northwest Veterans Museum, Lynnwood-Alderwood Manor Heritage Association, Sno-Isle Genealogical Society, and the Interurban Car #55. Fun History & Heritage Day events will be hosted from 11am–3pm on Saturdays, June 8, July 13, and August 10.

National Night Out Tuesday evening, August 6

National Night Out Against Crime will be celebrated all across America on Tuesday evening, August 6. During National Night Out (NNO) residents turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and go out to meet their neighbors in the name of crime prevention. The Lynnwood Police Department, in partnership with South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue, and other city departments, encourages residents to organize a neighborhood event to bring neighbors together. By involving several households in each neighborhood everyone shares in the fun of creating a real community building “block party.” It could be as simple as a dessert potluck in a garage, hot dogs grilling poolside at an apartment complex, or a barbeque gathering in a driveway.

The LPD and its partners try to visit as many neighborhoods as possible to connect with residents during this fun event.

Water Quality Report The City of Lynnwood’s Consumer Confidence Report (Water Quality Report) is

now available to customers online and at City Hall. The Annual Water Quality Report is a performance measure of the quality of water supplied by the City of Lynnwood. The report describes local drinking water sources, testing conducted on the water, allowable limits of

substances, substances detected, and the levels of those substances.

The Public Works Department is hosting an Online Open House regarding the Water Comprehensive Plan Update. Visit http://LynnwoodWater.Participate.Online.
