How are students assessed?Exams are just one o the ways in which students

are assessed. Continuous assessment is a

mixture o independent and group project work

that allows students to work steadily rather

than a single, intense exam period. Te ratio o

exams to continuous assessment depends on the

subject studied and selection o modules.

    Quick acts:

    Final undergraduate degree classications

are determined by grades achieved in the

second and third year o study, whereas

postgraduate awards are based on marks inall components.

    Undergraduate dissertations are usually

Masters dissertations vary in length, and

    can be between 15,00040,000 words

    depending on the subject.

Te PhD comprises a written thesis

when I decided to come to Exeter.

The teaching is quite dierent here.

In my country it is one way teaching,

where the teacher just speaks to the

    students. Here its better because

you can speak to your classmates

The teachers at INTO Exeter are

    really riendly. They are more

    approachable than my teachers at

High School and the classes are also

a lot smaller here, as at home there

would have been 3040 students in

a class. I think it makes or a better

    experience to have smaller classes.

The way we learn in Japan is also very

dierent. I used to just copy o the

board or rom books and listen to the

teachers. Here we talk in class and it s

much more interactive. I didnt know

about plagiarism in Japan, but Im not

worried about it as we have been

Firstly, it makes it easier to go rom

school into university, as there is

so much to learn about. Not only

    academically, but the experience o

living on campus, inding your way

    During my Foundation there was

a talk organised by sta rom the

    University o Exeter Business School.

    They gave us detailed inormation

about the courses. Once I discovered

I provide INTO Exeter students with in-depth support, guidance and advice on

all aspects o progression to the University o Exeter. This includes step-by-step

direction with applications, progression requirements, and programme inormation. I

work closely with the University Colleges to make sure that INTO students have lots

o opportunities to get a taste o what it s really like to be a student at the University:

meeting with academic sta, attending sample lectures, learning about employability

opportunities, visiting acilities, and hearing rom alumni. I also work with Student

Helpers a group o students who have already progressed rom the Centre to studyat the University o Exeter. They are able to share their experience o progressing to

degree level study with current students, and have lots o great tips and advice.
