from Alex and Tampi...greetingsgreetings

Hej småles,

It is almost a year! We loved the many

drawings that came in of our forest friends.

Our forest friends are so happy they are seen

by our fellow småles (they thought nobody

thought of them before)!

It’s autumn now and the magical forest here

is full of apples and the smell of cinnamon

welcoming Cinnamon Bun Day which is just

around the corner. We can’t wait to put our

baking skills to practice in a special cinnamon

bun making workshop we have just for you.

You can read more about it on pg 16 & 17!

Also, check out how you can easily get

5 Smålish Dållars and see some goodies

we have in store for you on pg 6.

Did you know that balloons are bad for the

environment? We didn’t know too! Read more

about what we found on pg 8.

We hope you will have fun this holiday and

we hope to see you soon!

*Psst, change is coming in the next Bug News

and we are so excited for it!

Alex and Tampi (Lele too!) With Big Bug Hugs,

03

inbox@smålesWe love to receive your drawings and letters - they just brighten

our day! Thank you and keep them coming. We apologise for not

“Hi Alex, Tampi(and Lele), this is my first time writing to you. I like the June holiday because I can visit Småland more often and I can also draw and write more to you. I love the food at IKEA restaurant especially the chicken wings and drinks. Every time I visit there, I can eat at least 3 chicken wings and drink two cups of soda. I have also planned to go on a vacation, to play in the park and playground and to do some revision.”

Anson Ho, 6 years old Darren Khoo, 8 years oldPoon Le Xuan, 10 years old

“Hi Alex, Tampi and Lele, this is my first time writing to you. I love everything about IKEA. The hot dogs, ice-cream and pancakes too! I love holidays, I can wake up later than usual. Spend some time play my favourite toys and visiting library. This June, I will be visiting Genting in Malaysia. It will be a fun time. I will tell my parents to bring me to IKEA too. I simply love it there!”

“To: Alex and Tampi

I love the June Holidays because I can relax and have no homework to do and because it is a mid-year holiday. I love to spend holidays going out overseas to different countries, cities and places. This year I am going to Hong Kong using the airline Cathay Pacific. I am going to the hotel Disney’s Hollywood hotel and we are staying there for 4 days and 3 nights. I am going to play at Disneyland. I can’t wait I am so excited!”

BEST LETTER

“Dear Alex, Tampi and Lele, you are sooo cute! It is my first time writing to you. I like the June holidays because I can visit you!

I will always try my best to bring newspapers for your paper porridge, but please do not eat my letter! I am quite tall and soon

will not be able to enter Småland play area. My brother might want to join too. I love the bug news as there are many activities to

participate in. I hope I am the winner for the letter writing this time. I will make necklaces for all of you as soon as I get the beads.”

Heng Yu Tong, 7 years old

“Dear Alex and Tampi and LeLe, during the June holiday, I am going to attend some workshops. I have Math, cupcake making and photo frame making workshop. Some of the days, I am going to use it for studying. As my weakest subject is Math, I am going to buck up for Math. I am also going to study for other subjects. This June, I am not going to other countries as my mother and father have to get my brother ready for PSLE. I hope that June is the best month of the year! =)”

Last issue, we asked what you liked to do during the holidays. Here are some of our favourite letters.

Great teamwork going on between our småle and his dad in the Toss & Dunk challenge.

For more pictures, visit www.IKEA.com.sg/smales/BookofRecords.

We held the 3rd Book of Records on 29 June and we all had a great load of fun! The challenges were intense as our challengers competed against each other to win the title of the best in each challenge followed by an entertaining performance by Captain Amazing and his animal friends. Alex and Tampi came by to visit too! Here are some pictures from the event and challenges!

Balloons: don’t let go!Balloons! Who doesn't love these bright, colourful and happy things?

Our balloons do not disappear into the sky when we let them go, but they come down as litter.

The balloon litter has bright colours that animals like and animals, especially turtles, think they

are yummy food and end up eating them. When they do, these balloons would cause them to

choke and die.

As earth loving småles, let’s not let our balloons go into the air!

Balloons: don’t let go!

08

Instead of letting go of our balloons,

here’s what we can do:

Did you know?

That when you stick a

tape on a balloon and

poke a needle through

the tape, the balloon

will not burst but slowly

deflate? Try it !

Pop a balloonHave a balloon

popping party to see who can pop the

most balloons!

Make funny balloons

Draw on your balloons and make

balloon faces.

Guess the number of balloons

Put all the balloons in a box and have your friends guess how many balloons

there are inside! The person who guesses it correctly wins a prize.

Make a papier macheStick torn pieces of

old newspaper on your balloon with starch or white glue to make

this. You can learn how in the next page!

mache paste

• Shallow container

• Sand • Funnel

Materials:

step 3Make your papier mache paste by mixing 2 parts white glue with 1 part water.

swedishnessCinnamon Bun Day – “Kanelbullens dag”Cinnamon buns, or kanelbullar in Swedish is a rolled bun with cinnamon and sugar. The dough is rolled, cut into slices and baked. Pearl Sugar is then sprinkled on top of it.

Cinnamon Buns is one of the favourite pastries in Sweden. You can have it for breakfast or as a tea-time munchie.

To celebrate the Swedish home baking tradition, 4th October was crowned a special day to highlight this tasty swirl of pastry!

So get into the Swedishness of it and get a cinnamon bun from a nearby bakery or bake one and have it with a nice cold glass of milk :) mmmm just like in Sweden.

It’s Children’s day and Cinnamon Bun day and we would like to give you a treat! Cut this out and present it at our restaurant to enjoy it. Valid only on 4 Oct 2013. Limited to 1 redemption per småle.

When I was still in mummy’s tummy, I had many dreams, of which one remains vivid in my mind…

A little girl found an egg in a whale’s mouth, and together, they set off in search of the egg’s mother. Along the way, they met the seagulls that loved to sing, the clownfish that enjoyed playing hide-and-seek, and the seahorse daddy that gave birth to its young.

This is an enchanting journey of birth and beginnings.

Did you know that less than 1% of all the water on Earth can be used by people?

The rest is water from the sea, which is salt water that cannot be used. Water is

precious especially in Singapore.

reduce! ways to save waterreduce! ways to save water

When washing your dishes, turn off the tap, you can save a lot of water doing that.

Turn off the water while you wash your hair or soap yourself when you shower – you can save so much water!

Take a shower instead of a bath.

While staying in a hotel or even at home, consider reusing your towels, you save water by not putting it in the wash each time.

If you accidentally drop ice cubes when filling your glass from the freezer, don't throw them in the sink. Drop them in a plant instead. The plant will happily thank you for it.

Collect the water you use for rinsing fruits and vegetables, then reuse it to water your plants.

When brushing your teeth, rinse your mouth with water in a cup instead of rinsing your mouth from a running tap.

As environmentally loving småles, let’s do our part to save water!
