Remote Data Management – An Overview
1. An extension of the traditional outsourced data maintenance, Remote Data Access and Management (RDAM) pertains to providing data maintenance services by accessing the client data and providing the maintenance services from a remote location
2. The data resides at the clients’ locations and is accessed and worked upon by the service provider operating remotely.
3. Complete data security is offered to the client, whilst the maintenance being handled by a trusted vendor complying to security standards like ISO 27001 / BS 7799
4. The following categories of clients can avail these services:• Organizations which have a fully operational GIS system in
place and looking for assistance in providing maintenance services on the data and application
• Organizations which have a partial GIS system (i.e. data may be in different formats, platforms, etc) which is operational.
• Organizations for which updated data is critical due to the nature of their operations
`
Remote Data Management – What it Offers to Clients
Organizations are able to develop a consistence and long term strategy for the
accuracy, currency, quality and update frequency for their data, because:
1. Optimization of core functions and productivity: Organizations can focus
on their core functions, instead of getting into data management
2. Increased efficiency & Cost Reduction:
• No capital investments or hiring is required to set up their own maintenance
resources; instead it is outsourced to specialist organizations like us who offer
such services at a lower cost and higher efficiency.
• Access from low cost destinations like India further reduce costs.
• Stable, predictable, fixed costs can be budgeted and measured.
• The cost of failure is reduced due to best practices adopted by us which
translates into improved quality and efficiency
`
Remote Data Management – What it Offers to Clients
3. Minimization of Risks: Skilled resources of Infotech reduce the risk of
potential omissions & errors, ensuring high levels of accuracy & currency and
minimum downtime.
4. Increased Flexibility
• Our maintenance services are tailored for a client as per their needs and
requirements and offer enough flexibility to the client to scale up or down quickly
as business situations change by adding or dropping services as necessary.
• Our maintenance services offer a wide range of services like Dating/modifying
data, Retiring data, Duplicate handling, Reporting on data changes, Database
maintenance schedule, Software upgrade procedures etc, which offer a client a
high degree of flexibility to select and maintain an enhanced level of data
readiness for various applications
Remote Data Management – The Advantage
• Offiste data maintenance is cost effective and offers both short term and long term solution for database maintenance
• Quick turn around and ramp up by leveraging the existing set up and infrastructure
• Effective resource deployment that will help in quicker project initiation and execution
• Faster implementation of any technology upgrades and data quality
• Capability to overcome the challenges of maintaining a bulky database and any upgrades / changes
• Additional staff support ’on need’ basis
• Fast disaster relief operations

• Use advanced data security systems for data maintenance clients such as NetScreen security prioritize the traffic in real time.
• The full-featured firewall provides a comprehensive level of packet inspection, authentication, attack blocking, and event logging.
• Advanced security technology by replacing slow, CPU-intensive software-based systems with high-performance ASIC-based solutions and a custom-developed real-time operating system. This architecture increases the performance and ease-of-deployment and reduces management barriers typically associated with firewalls and VPN encryption devices that run software on general-purpose processors, PCs or workstations.
• Vendor compliant to ISO 27001 processes and has a well documented security policy to protect the data and information security to our clients

• Maintain a database to track the status of the maps and data, to ascertain the status of the maps/areas currently being accessed for data maintenance and the maps/areas that are free.
• This database is made accessible to clients.
• Based on the contents of this database, the client could know the area we are working and will enable our clients to use the other areas.
• Once the data maintenance is completed, database is updated with the list of updations.
• If we receive further update/Data Maintenance for the same map the process is repeated.
• Compliance with world class quality certifications like ISO 9001:2000 and CMMi level 5, Infotech delivers cost effective quality services.
• Infotech’s compliance with ISO-IEC:27001 policy ensures that client's data security and confidentiality

Case Study 1: Data Maintenance for a Large European Telecom company
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
- Conflation of existing network
SCOPE OF WORK
Due to the change in existing landbase, the facility data was registered to the new land base, and outdated land information was updated.
The database of 623 Local Area Exchanges (LEAs) from 13 districts was updated covering approx.. 1.7 Million Landbase features.
For a Large European Telecom Company
NETWORK CONFLATION
Case Study 2: Online Data Maintenance for KPN Telecom
Project Name : KPN TelecomProject Type : Online Data MaintenanceDuration : 1 YearNo of people deployed : 50Software used : FrammeFinal Platform : Framme
Project Description:The scope of the Data Maintenance project was divided into three different individual projects. • Topography (Landbase) Maintenance.• Network updation. (Work order posting)• Cleanup (Cosmetic editing and redefining the location of the telecom
features to the new Landbase)
All these three projects were executed on the customer network database, which is available in different location of customer offices at Holland online. The client machines at Infotech development center at Hyderabad, India accessed the customer data servers at Holland through Web network using a special hardware called “Net Screen”. The maintenance has been done online on the live data of customer’s Telecom network.
Case Study 4: Online Data Maintenance
Project Name : COXProject Type : Online Data MaintenanceDuration : 6 MonthsNo of people deployed : 30Software used : AutoCADFinal Platform : Smallworld/PNI Project Description:The basic scope of the project involved the manual edit (clean-up) of the datawithin the clients Online Smallworld/PNI environment after it is migrated fromAutoCad.
This included fixing "gaps" in the right-of ways, placing missing street names, andplacing buildings, verifying Trenches/ cables / devices (amplifiers, splitters, taps)Etc.,
This project was executed through one of our strategic partner’s in North America.
Case Study 5: Data Maintenance for Tele Atlas
Project Name : Tele AtlasProject Type : Offline Data Capture / Maintenance Duration No of people deployed : 110Software used : DWS/TA MapperFinal Platform : DWS/TA Mapper
Project Description:Since 1994, Infotech has been assisting Tele Atlas (Previously ETAK) for the creation of the data sets involving Street Mapping for the various cities of US to be sold as CD - ROMs. These are used for a wide range of GIS, Location-Based Services and In-Car Navigation solutions. The project is being executed on SUN Sparc workstations using proprietary software. The Aerial Photographs and its ortho rectified images received from Tele Atlas are being used for updating of the database continuously with associated attributes being attached to it.
The project involves capturing of all streets, hydrology features, and rail network and attributing in DWS/TA Mapper software for entire USA using DOQQ/USGS Quads, DRG's and DOT maps.
