An application for Family Class sponsorship can be made if your spouse and dependent children live inside or outside Canada.

The application process involves two steps:

1. If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, you must apply and qualify as a sponsor ;

2. Your spouse and dependent children must then apply for permanent residence.

When you sponsor persons who are members of the family class, you must sign an undertaking promising to provide financial support for your family basic requirements and those of their family members.

For a spouse, your undertaking will end three years after your spouse becomes a permanent resident.

You can sponsor: parents grandparents brothers or sisters, nephews or nieces, granddaughters or grandsons who are orphaned, under 18 years of age and not married or in a common-law relationship another relative of any age or relationship but only if the sponsor has no spouse or any other relative that can be sponsored. accompanying relatives of the above (spouse, partner and dependent children). If you are sponsoring a relative, other than a spouse or dependent children, you need to meet the financial requirements
