AUTO-DISENGAGEMENT OF 1 st AND 2nd GEARS
To eliminate this possibility. a synchroniser assembly with coupling sleeve incorporating 'in-gear' grooves for 1st and 2nd gears was introduced at Engine Nos. 18 AMW-U-H 42550 and 18 AMW-U-L 20593 .

The following parts, (refer chart overleaf) if manufactured in Aust ralia , CANNOT be used in conjunction with gears manufactured in Englan d or vice versa.
English gears are stamped with I!MOWOG" only. whereas Australian gea rs are stamped with "MOWOC" over the map of Australia or "MOWOG - A".
1 st speed gear used in assembly Part No . 48G 422 has no stamping. however the country of manufacture can be ascertained by referring to illustrations 'A' a nd 'B' , and the stamping on the front face of 2nd speed synchro:

MODIFIED FIRST MOTION SHAFT
At engine numbers saloon 18Y/Ta/H 14387 and utility 18YC/Ta/ H 1692 a new roller bearing was introduced together with a modified first motion shaft, drive gear, flywheel housing and adaptor plate .
The first motion shaft has been redesigned and the roller bearing (refe r drawing F2 Au stin 1800 Workshop Manual), has been trans ferred from the drive gear to th e first motion shaft. Othe r com ponents have been alt ered to suit this design change. refe r sketch overleaf. ALTERATIONS TO WORKSHOP MANUAL PROCEDURE Dismantle as Section F1 - Remove the clutch housing. R emove the bea rin g from the iirst motion shaft with a bearing race puller. '
Reassemble as Sect ion Fl - Replace the colla r on the first motion , s haft. Drift the bearing on to the first m otion shaft with the lip of the oute r r ace facing inward. Check that the outer r ace stands proud of the inner race by at least O. 010 in. r efer inset tAt sketch over leaf.
