A Stewardship Thought

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” --Colossians 3:2

Do you put God first in all things? Possessions, money, power, ego can easily become gods to many of us. Do a quick check of what is important to you. Is God at the very top of the list? If not, your priorities need to be readjusted. Don’t let earthly things become a god before God.

EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD APRIL 1, 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, REJOICE, the Lord is risen! We gather as a community, as one Body in Christ, to celebrate our Risen Savior this Easter. Our celebration should give us hope that salvation can be our s when we follow the way of the r isen Christ. How do we know we are following in his way? That is not an easy question to answer.

Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk who served as a priest, mystic and Catholic author offered the following prayer. It is a prayer that we can all benefit from when we pray it often. "My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone."The disciples and women who followed Jesus went to the tomb expecting to find him, yet they didn’t. Shocked from the events of the previous three days, they are now in even more turmoil as Jesus is missing from his resting place. Yet, in time, he revealed himself to them and showed them the path to follow. Like the women and disciples, we can sometime feel lost. Thomas Merton offered the prayer above as a way to express that he was not always sure where God wanted him to go. We are never really 100% sure and that is a good thing. If we were totally sure then we would not rely on our loving God. Part of our Easter joy is letting go of self, not always knowing where God will lead us next, but trusting in his plan for he truly knows what is best for us. Some of our greatest men and women; the disciples, the women who followed Jesus, the saints, Thomas Merton, Mother Theresa, Dorothy Day and so many others who seem to have it all put together did not rely on themselves. They relied on God. Let us rely on a loving Savior who will bring us to a tomb that we will find empty. And, in doing so, we will see the need to let go of self so that we can rely on the plan of a loving Savior. This is true Easter Joy. For it is not about us, instead it is about a God who loves us so much that he will allow his only Son to die and rise so that we might have the road that leads to salvation and love.

I invite you to review our listing of our Easter Memorials. These men, women and children have gone before us and are in the hands of our resurrected Savior. They have followed Christ and now rest with him in eternal peace. Thank you to the families and friends who have offered these memorials for their loved ones. They are a reminder that we are all one in his name. Let us remember them in our prayers through this Easter season. And, let us never lose hope, for we will be reunited with them again when we follow Christ and leave this world for our eternal salvation.

On behalf of the entire staff of St. Joan of Arc Church, I want to wish you and your loved ones a very blessed Easter. We have been blessed as a worshipping community and I will pray that we continue to be blessed as we reach out and call others to join us at the table of Christ. I thank you for your prayers and will keep you in mine as we celebrate together our Easter joy. I am at your service as Pastor of this great community. May Christ bless us abundantly with his goodness and love.

A Blessed Easter to all,Fr. Chris Luoni

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

Christ is Risen indeed!

We have arrived at the penultimate feast on the

Church's calendar, the cause of our joy and our hope. Life has

defeated death. Sorrow and suf-fering do not have the last say.

In the resurrection of Jesus we see many reasons to rejoice. Not only has Jesus conquered the specter of

visible death, but he restores to us graced life.

On Holy Saturday, Jesus descended to the dead and delivered the just souls into heavenly paradise. What are

our own Saturday tombs? Jesus has the power to open them all. That is our invitation, this day most of all.

May resurrection joy fill your heart, your family, your

workplace, and your community. Happy Easter!
