Page 3: shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.inshodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/46930/11/11_appendix a.pdf · Created Date 8/1/2015 3:15:57 PM

Model and introduce the students to the various phases of the model. Tr. will make them prepare a worksheet in their notebook.2. Tr. will present two labelled examples (one negative and the other positive).3. Tr. will ask the students to take down all the examples on their worksheet, compare and contrast the attributes of the examples, and form and note down the tentative hypotheses.4. Tr. will present additional labelled examples, in a prearranged sequence and ask the students to test and reanalyse their hypotheses in the light of those examples.5. During the course of the lesson, Tr. will keep on asking the students whether they have attained the concept or not.6. Tr. will ask the students to identify the characteristics which are present in the positive examples but not in the negative ones.7. Tr. will ask questions like the following to cue the students in identifying the attributes of the concept. Tr. will write down the attributes on the black board,a) What is the difference between the first negative and the first positive example ?b) What is the difference between the first two positive examples "Rupa" and "The computer" ? What is common between them ?c) Look at "smoking" and "talking". How are they similar ? In what manner do they differ ?d) What do you notice about the position of the positive examples in the sentence ?e) What is their function in the sentence ?f) Can we call the positive examples sentences ? Then what are they ?g ) What is the relationship between the positive example and the remaining part of the sentence ?The Tr. will present the examples until most of the students identify the concept.

Phase II : Testing Attainment of the Concept8. Tr. will present additional examples without labelling them and ask the students to recognize them.9. Tr. will ask the students to generate their own examples and justify them.10. Tr. will ask the students to name the concept.11. Tr. will ask the students to find out the essential attributes of the concept. Tr. will write on the B.B.

Page 4: shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.inshodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/46930/11/11_appendix a.pdf · Created Date 8/1/2015 3:15:57 PM

12. Tr. will ask the students to define the concept including all the essential attributes of the concept in it. Tr. will write down the definition on the B.B.

Phase III : Analysis of Thinking Process13. Tr. will encourage and guide the students to describe and analyse their thought processes and thus to evaluate the categorising strategies (wholist or partist) they used for attaining the concept. She will not tell but lead the students to decide which strategy was better. Tr. will ask questions like the following.a) What hypotheses did you formulate when I presented the first

two examples ?b) Did your hypotheses stand when I presented the next two

examples ?c) Which hypotheses were rejected ? Why ?d) What were your new hypotheses ?e) When did you first get the idea of the concept ?f) Which examples helped you note the attributes of the concept ?g) Findout whether this student had a concept hypothesis or an

attribute hypothesis.h) Which hypotheses are better ? Why ?i) Did you formulate and test only one hypothesis at a time or

more ?
