• Began in the USA in 1970’s predominantly as alcohol &

other drug programs

• Initially in-house

• In Australia, development in the 1980’s as ‘broad-brush’

programs

• Confidential counselling service for employees (& family

members)

• Referrals: Self, family, workplace, health, professional

• Utilisation between 1% - 5%
