Value of WITSMLValue of WITSMLValue of WITSMLValue of WITSML

Resource exploitation Optimise well placement

– As drilled vs plan

Maximise reservoir exposure– Access to onshore experts e.g Geosteering, Wellbore Stability

Reservoir characterisation while drilling– Latest LWD measurements in Real Time

Cost Reduction Reduce decision cycle time

– Rig time savings

Assist with operator team working environments– Drilling/Geology/Petrophysics

Reduce data handling– Less errors and faster data transfer

Running in Norway since 2000 Reducing workforce at the wellsite New roles and responsibilities defined ARTE – Advantage Real Time Engineer

– Cross-trained MWD/SLS engineer responsible for:– All data acquistion at the well site.– Benefits

• eliminate requirement for remote controlled acquistion equipment• reduce dependency on fibre optic network infrastructure leading to a

wider global applicability BEACON Engineer

– Shore based position responsible for all post acquistion data manipulation, report generation and FE deliverable preparation. Provide FE support for latest FE tools such as:

– Image logs derived whilst drilling, pressure testing while drilling, azimuthal measurements while drilling.

Providing wireline replacement in a real time environment. Aim is to develop greater FE competency and work more closely

with client petrotechnical staff onshore

Challenges for WITSMLChallenges for WITSMLChallenges for WITSMLChallenges for WITSML

QA/QC Real-time data– Need to ensure quality data as basis for RT

decisions without interrupting real time data flow Proprietary data sets

– Everyone has them (well test, images, NMR data) Relinquish legacy processes

– Operator specific reports, custom data formats WITSML enablement

– Many end user programs yet to be migrated Multiple usages

– Time based data– Different data access strategies (polling,

subscription) for realt ime and historical data
