Congratulations to Janet Collins who recently completed her one year assignment as President of the Professional Club Marketing Association (PCMA). The PCMA is a professional associa-tion that supports private clubs across the country through edu-cation and networking oppor-tunities for their marketing and management profession-als. Janet has made an impor-tant impact in her profession over the past year and here at Sawgrass Country Club. With the help of the many volunteer members and her member ser-vices team, we are projecting 2014 to be a very favorable year in new member recruitment and retention.
Please help us welcome Lisa Hoffman as our new Chief Financial Officer for Sawgrass Country Club. Lisa is complet-ing her first month here in her new role and is off to an impres-sive start. With the 2015 budget preparation upon us in addition to the regular responsibilities, she has performed remarkably in very little time. Lisa moved to Sawgrass Country Club from the Plantation where she was
employed for the past 13 years and we look forward to her con-tinued success with our club.
With the completion of the East Course construction, getting the course ready for the opening has been our charge. This includes additional drainage work as required, adjusting irrigation heads, deciding to sod certain areas, planting pine and palm trees to enhance the course and designing a special bulk head behind the 8th tee.
Many members attended the opening ceremony on Thursday, October 30th at 3:00 pm on the 1st tee of the East Course. The event featured food and bever-ages, a long-drive-contest, and another special appearance by Jaxson D’ville. We will be work-ing closely with the USGA for guidance on the opening and we are eager to see members out there playing on all of our 27 holes again. Please keep in mind that the grass will be rather delicate this season on the East Course so we will be cart-paths-only until we are well into the growing season in the spring. The Club has already

begun preliminary work on the South Course project which will be presented to the membership this winter and is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2015.
“The Club has already begun preliminary work on the South Course project...”
In addition to the completion of the East Course, we are also rebuilding the restrooms on both the East and South Courses. These facilities are scheduled to be open to members during the first week of December and we will provide temporary facilities until they are available.
There are some other notable improvements around the club that you may notice on your next visit to the Golf Club. On November 14th all the carpet will have been replaced in the Golf Club and all new dining furniture will be in place. In addition, we completed the con-struction portion of an upgrade to our ladies locker room facili-ties. We are awaiting a furniture delivery to complete that project which will be in place sometime after Thanksgiving.
We have also made some prog-ress on our Phase II of our Master Facilities Plan, The Beach Club. In October, the board approved Sauer Construction Inc, as our General Contractor/Construction Manager to com-plete the project and to partner with ELM Architecture, Cobb Clark Enterprises (our Owners Representative) and our Project Team. Currently we are working to move forward with our sche-matic design and produce a con-struction schedule for the project.
Tuesday Night Chef ’s Night and Brunch are back at the Golf Club this month and we will re-introduce the Carving Room on Sunday Evenings at the Beach Club. Also, we are introducing a Thursday Night Early Bird – Buy-one-get-one-entree on Thursday evenings in the Beach Club dining rooms from 5:00 to 6:00pm. Please make your res-ervations early for Thanksgiving and remember that the Holiday Season is almost upon us.
The golfing season is also upon us and we are moving into our dormancy time here in North Florida. During this four to six month season the Bermuda grass goes dormant which means it turns brown and doesn’t grow. In our preparation for this, we are requesting that our mem-bers heighten your awareness of our rules on the course and your commitment to appropriately filling your divots and repairing ball marks.
I’d like to add that avoiding heav-ily trafficked areas while travers-ing the courses in a golf cart can have a meaningful impact on our course conditions throughout the winter. The reason we rope the golf course is to manage cart traf-fic but we would also like to see our golfers using the cart paths as much as possible this year. As a group of users, our members’ attitude and concern for the golf course conditions and their role in the maintenance makes a big difference. Please help us have the best conditions possible this year by doing your part.

Mixed doubles kicks-off the Club Championship the first week-end in November. Pictured below are last year’s Mixed Doubles champions, Blair May and Paul Miro This year the Mixed Doubles tournament will be open to 6.0, 7.0 and Open divisions.
The Club Championship continues with our Men’s and Ladies’ Singles Matches November 13-15th. If you’re looking for a week-end of fun to show off your tennis skills, this tournament is for you! Just ask last year’s Men’s 3.5 Singles champion, Jerry Croan and Men’s Open Singles Champion, Jeff Johnson. In true Sawgrass fashion, these champions have a winning smile and attitude. The Singles Tournament will be open to Men’s Divisions: 3.0, 3.5, Open and Ladies’ Divisions: A, B, C, D.
Wrapping up the Club Championship Tournaments will be the Men’s and Ladies Doubles Matches November 28-30th. What better way to burn off your Thanksgiving Feast than hitting the tennis court with a few of your fellow Sawgrass Members?
The 2013 Doubles Champions: MaryAnn Nava and Hope Boland (Ladies C Division - pictured below), Jack Wallner and Bo Tumlinson (Men’s Open Division - pictured below) and David Smith/Bill Slattery (Men’s 3.5 Division - not pictured).
