By FRANK MORRISSVariety is the spice of life, and when Hollywood goes -out to

spend an evening at the secluded little drinking and eatingspots, it carries a couple of pepper pots with it.

All within the space of a fewhours last night I stopped at atropical hut where the rain beatdown from a bamboo roof, pausedat an elaborate beachcomber eatinghouse, whisked away to Bali onlyto be brought- to earth in a Five andTen cent eating house where sailorswith girls under their arms consum-ed rum and huge hamburgers. AndI have secured the recipe for aZombie—but more about that later.

Then Came the Zombie

Like a tropical storm, it was soonover and cut on Hollywood boule-vard we stepped again, into an-other taxi and away to Donthe Beachcomber's restaurant.More bamboo. This time ahuge, dim, hut with Hawaiianwaiters. There we dined on Chin-ese green peas with pork, almonds,chicken, mushrooms, bamboo shoots,celery and onions, duck, friedshrimp and breast of chicken . . .all mixed up in a strange but de-licious concoction. Yes, it soundsstrange, but it was really deliciousand with it we sipped a Zombie.

I shall never drink a Zombieagain. Here's the recipe: The serv-ing glass should be approximately14 ounces, and frosted. Into it isshaken one ounce of Demerara 150proof rum, one- ounce of heavyJamaica rum, one once of Guad-alupe rum and one ounce of PortoRican cartadora. To this is addedone ounce of Falernum and oneounce of simple syrup, the juice ofone whole'Mexican lime and fourdashes of bitters. Decorate withfruits in season, and mint
