Role Models

Helen Keller I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.

Eleanor Roosevelt You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Role Models

John F. Kennedy As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. Change is the law of life. And those who only look to the past or present are certain to miss the future. The best road to progress is freedoms road. My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country. Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.

Martin Luther King Jr. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

The time is always right to do what is right.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.

I have decided to stick to love ... Hate is too great a burden to bear.

We must live together as brothers or perish together as fools.

People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other.

Robert Kennedy There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?

Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

One-fifth of the people are against everything all the time.

What is objectionable, what is dangerous about extremists is not that they are extreme, but that they are intolerant. The evil is not what they say about their cause, but what they say about their opponents.

Every time we turn our heads the other way when we see the law flouted, when we tolerate what we know to be wrong, when we close our eyes and ears to the corrupt because we are too busy or too frightened, when we fail to speak up and speak out, we strike a blow against freedom and decency and justice.

Let no one be discouraged by the belief there is nothing one person can do against the enormous array of the world's ills, misery, ignorance, and violence. Few will have the greatness to bend history, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. And in the total of all those acts will be written the history of a generation.

Values Clarification

Mahatma Gandhi

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. Be the change that you wish to see in the world.

Viktor Frankl

When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. The salvation of man is through love and in love.

Philip Daab

You are something else.

to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances,

to choose one’s own way.”
