Comets Clear District Path Versus Pilotsby James King

The Carlisle County Comets hosted the FultonCounty Pilots on Tuesday, January 31, with thegirls taking the court first.

The Lady Comets took control early as Sams,Babb and Moran combined for 19 points, whileAllen, Pierce, Hardin and Bess total 9 points forFulton County.

In the 2nd period, Pierce and Bess totaled a 7-0 run in the opening 5:00 of play.

The Lady Comets got back in the game asBabb, Sams, Moran and McKelly brought 8 pointsto the rim for a 27-16 half time advantage.

The Lady Pilots begin the 3rd period with abasket from Hardin, then Moran, Sams and Babbbring in 8 points for Carlisle.

The Lady Comets continued to keep the pres-sure going as Babb, Ellegood and Moran totaled12 points but the Lady Pilots kept fighting asPierce and Hardin added 3 points for a 47-21score.

The Lady Pilots outscored the Lady Comets inthe 4th quarter as Pierce, Nolan and Hardin col-lected 11 points but Moran, Garrett and O’ Daniel

add 6 points to give the Lady Comets a 53-32 victory.

Varsity boys action began with the Comets on the ball as Burnett, Elliott and Rowe planteda 15-0 run on the Pilots.

The Pilots went to the charity stripe 3 times in the opening quarter but failed to make a shot.Quarter number 2 opened quite differently as Keeling, Smith, Malone and Roberson total

10 points, while Burnett scores a single basket for the Comets.Carlisle calls time out, then Burnett, Carrico and Guhy enter 11 points.Meanwhile, Roberson and Polk add 4 points to cut Carlisle’s half time lead to 28-14.As the 3rd period started, Smith and Keeling give the Pilots 7 points, then Burnett, Guhy and

Elliott deliver 25 points to the iron.The Pilots don’t quit as Nolan and Roberson add 5 points before the quarter ends 53-26.The Pilots began the 4th period with Polk and Malone scoring 4 points, then the Comets an-

swer with Rowe, Ballard, Patterson and Burnett totaling 14 points.The Pilots go to the foul line three times, with Smith and Polk each scoring 2 points, but

Rowe and Edmaiston finish the night by adding 7 points to give the Comets a 74-36 victory.
