A workshop on “The Applications of MATLAB/Simulink in Control System, Power System and
Signal Processing” was conducted from 11th December 2017 to 13th December 2017.
The main objective of the workshop was to train the participants in the applications of
MATLAB/Simulink in Control System, Power System and Signal Processing applications with a
special focus on the newly introduced DSP Lab in 6th
Semester VTU CBCS Syllabus. A total of
33 delegates from various colleges in Karnataka attended the workshop.
The inaugural function started in the Seminar Hall at 9.15 am with an invocation song by Ms.
S.M. Jaanaki. The invocation song was followed by the lighting of the lamp by Dr. N.
Gunasekaran- Principal, Prof. M. Brindha- Vice Principal, Prof. Pavan Kumar from BIT
Bangalore and a select few participants. The Principal then addressed the gathering emphasizing
on the importance of such workshops and wished success for the event. The inaugural function
ended at 9.45 am.
After the inaugural function Prof. Pavan Kumar started with DSP lab session. He explained the
fundamentals of Digital Signal Processing and the MATLAB programs covering the entire
syllabus of 6th Semester DSP Lab. The theory session continued till 12.45 pm. After the lunch
break, participants reassembled in DSP lab where they were given hands on session during which
the MATLAB programs were also worked out.
The second and third days’ sessions were proficiently handled by Mr. Pramod Kumar Naik-
Senior Application Engineer and Mr. Maisankar - Application Engineer from coreEL
technologies. Mr. Maisankar started the session with an introduction of CoreEL & Mathworks.
During the first day session he explained MATLAB programming basics, Numerical
Computation, Data Analysis and Visualization, Model-based Design using Simulink and
Mathematical Modelling of Solar Cell. Participants were given with hands on session in the
afternoon.
During the third day session, the focus was on Filter Design and Analysis, Speech and Audio
Processing, Control System Design and Analysis, SIMSCAPE POWER SYSTEMS and Project
Based Learning.
The sessions were conducted efficiently by the experts and was thoroughly useful for the
participants. The valedictory function was held at 3.30 pm on the third day during which the event
coordinators distributed participation certificates to the delegates. The function concluded
successfully by 4.00 pm.
