Why the ostrich sticks his head into the ground

By Clara Workman

Long, long ago in the Zairbar (zr-bar) grasslands (now called the African grasslands) their was a ostrich named Long Neck. Every time their was a lion he had to run till he couldn’t breath any more.

RUN!!!!

He tried to get to know the meerkat family. The dad of the meerkat family's name was Boja. (boo-ja) Hi Boja!!

Hi!

Boja and Long Neck were best friends.

One day, Long Neck went to visit the meerkat family. Boja was on the watch so Long Neck didn't bother him.

I'm on the

watch!

Ok.

He waited and started to design a yelping horn. It would make a noise that would tell all of the meerkats’ that a predator was spotted.

Boja went of duty. But all of a sudden….

I’m of duty.

The yelping horn started to go of.

Everybody scampered into the varied sizes of homes.

Run!!!!!!!

Long Neck didn’t know what to do so he found one hole big enough to hold his head in and he stuck it in.

Boja yelped witch meant the predator was out of site.

Yelp!

Everybody survived. That is why the ostrich puts its head into holes.
