Chapter 2 Whats New
2.1 The Custom Shop
Nowyoucan try thegearbeforeyoubuy it, andyoucanpurchasemodelslacarte tocreateyourowncustomized tonepowerhouse.Simplyclickon theCustomShop buttonwith an active Internet connection and login to see theonlineCustomShophomepage.Thereyoucanbrowsethevastcollectionofover200gearmodelsincludingtheofficiallyapprovedmodelsofworld-classbrand-ed gear from Fender, Ampeg, Orange, Soldano, Seymour Duncan, Groove Tubes, Gallien-Krueger, Jet City, THD, T-Rexandmanymore.
You can search gearmodels by keywords, or use the convenient gear typemenutobrowsethehundredsofgearmodelsavailablewithmodelinformation,interface imageand the amount of credits that eachgearmodel costs. Everygearmodelcanalsobetriedoutforfree,thesamewayyouwouldtryanampinaphysicalshop.SimplyclicktheTRYbuttontounlockthemodelinAmpliTube3tousethefullyfunctionalmodelfortwodays.Thisgivesyoutheopportunitytotestandevaluatethemodelinboththeplug-inandthestandaloneversiontoseehowitworksforyou.Themodelwillbelockedafteryourtwo-daytrialperiodends,butyoucantryitagainaftertwomonths(orbuyitatanytime,ofcourse!).ThetrialtimeremainingforthemodelwillbedisplayedbesidethemodelpopupdisplaymenuinAmpliTube3showingyouthehoursleft.

2.4 Patches
AmpliTubenowcontains4,000patchlocationswhereyoucanstorepresetsalongwiththeirassociatedcontrollerinformation.Thepresetinsideapatchbecomesauniqueobjectthatcanbeeditedandsavedaspatchwithallofitsmodelparametersseparatelyfromtheoriginalpresetfromwhichitwasderived.Thisalsoallowsyoutoorganizegroupsofsimilarpresets(suchasBlues)intorangesofpatchesforconvenientrecall.
2.5 Native 64-bit Compatibility
AmpliTube now has native support for 64-bit applications and operatingsystems.

Chapter 3 Presets and Patches
3.1 What is the difference between a Preset and a Patch?
APresetcontainsalloftheinformationforthemodelsselected,thesettingsforthosemodelsandthesignalchainthatlinksthemtogether.Presetshavenames(forexample,60BritCrunch).
APatch is thecombinationofapresetand itsexternalcontrollersettings(suchasmastervolume,ampgain,delay level,etc.). ThenewPatchmodeshows4,000memorylocationswhereyoucanstorepatches(figure3.1).

Patches have numbers (for example, 200A) AND names. This is becausethenameoftheassociatedpresetcontainedinsideeachpatchcanalsobethoughtofasthenameofthepatchsincethepresetcontainedinsideapatchisauniquepresetthatisonlyassociatedwiththatpatchandisnottiedtoany other preset in AmpliTube. Once you save a preset into a patch, thepresetbecomesapartofthepatchandmaybeeditedindependentlyofthepresetfromwhichitcame.
Withapatch,youcanassignthesecontrollerstoanyofthepresetparameters:
ext.pedals1to6,knobs1to6andswitchesA,B,C,DontheStompIO built-inpedal,built inswitch,externalswitchesandexternalpedal
ontheStealthPedal

When you select thePRESETS tab in the browser, it displays the factorypresetsandyourcustompresetsallorganizedandsearchablebykeywordasinpreviousversionsofAmpliTube.
When an individual preset is highlighted in the browser, you will see agraphicalpreview(stompboxes,amplifiers,cabinets,rackeffectsandsignalrouting)underthebrowserwindowtohelpyouvisualizethepresetscon-figuration(figure3.3).

3.2 Selecting Patches
There are 4,000 patch locations inAmpliTube. Patches are organized intogroupsoften(000009,010019990-999)andsubdividedintofourgroups(AtoD)(figure3.4).

You can also recall patches with the StompIO (using the Bank Up/DownandAtoDswitches)andStealthPedal footcontrollers (usingtheexternalswitches).
NOTE:whenacontrollersuchastheStompIOisconnected,AmpliTubewillstartupwiththelastpatchthatwaspreviouslyloaded.Itwillstartupjustasyouleftit.Whenthereisnocontrollerconnected,AmpliTubewillstartupwithpatch000A,thedefaultpatch,containingthedefaultpreset.

3.3 Saving a Preset into a Patch
Youcreateapatchwhenyouloadapresetandcontrollerinformationintooneofthepatchlocations.Toloadapresetintoapatch,simplydoubleclickapresetfromthebrowserorselectapresetfrompresetselectorwindowatthetopleftofAmpliTube.Onceyouhaveloadedapresetintoapatch,clicktheSAVE orSAVE AS buttons at the top of AmpliTube to save the patch.ClickingSAVEwillstorethepatchinthecurrentlocation(suchas000A)andoverwritewhatwasinthatlocationpreviously.ClickingSAVE ASwillopenawindowwhereyoucanselectanewpatchlocation(fig.ure3.5).

The preset you selected is now duplicated in the destination patch, andthepatchcannowbeeditedwithoutaffectingtheoriginalsourcepresetsparameters.
NotethatwithbothSAVEandSAVE AS,AmpliTubewillopenawindowtoconfirmwhetheryouwanttosaveapresetorapatch.Youcanchoosetosaveeitherthepresetorpatchfromthiswindow.WhenStompIOisconnectedtoAmpliTube,thedefaultsavemodeisSavePATCH.Whenthereisnocon-trollerconnected,thedefaultsavemodeisSavePRESET.

3.4 Saving Multiple Presets as Patches
Youcanselectseveralpresetsinthebrowserandthensavethemtoanequalnumberofpatches.Forexample,letssayyouwanttogrouptogetherallofthepresetsforBlues.TypethewordBluesintothesearchwindow,andallthepresetsthatcontainthewordBluesinanyfieldwillbedisplayedinthebrowser.YoucannowsavealloftheseBluespresetstopatches.Highlightthepresetsyouwanttosavetopatcheswhileholdingtheshiftkey.Whenyouhighlightmultiplepresets,abuttonwillappearatthetopofthebrowsercalledSAVE SELECTED PRESETS TO PATCHES.Next to thebutton isadropdownmenuwhere you can select the starting number of the destinationpatchestowhichtheselectedpresetswillbesaved(fig3.6).

Theselectedpresetswillbesavedsequentiallystartingatthepatchnumberyouchoose.Whenyouhaveselectedthedestinationpatchnumberfromthedrop downmenu, click theSAVE SELECTED PRESETS TO PATCHES button.AmpliTubewilldisplayaconfirmationwindowthatsummarizeswhatyouareabouttodo.Whenyouarereadytoproceed,clickOkaytoexecutetheoperation.(figure3.7).

Chapter 4 Foot Controller Integration
4.1 Introduction
WiththelatestversionofAmpliTube3,theprogrammingofyourfootcontrollerfor liveperformanceusehasneverbeeneasier.NowyourprogrammingcanalsobedonefromwithintheAmpliTubeplug-inandautomaticallymirroredonthecontrollerforaveryfastandconvenientwayoforganizingyouruniquelytweakedcollectionofpresets.
The first step is to connect your external hardware controller (StealthPedal,StompIO)tothecomputersothatAmpliTubewillrecognizeit.Onceconnected,itmustbeselectedintheControllersMenu(figure4.1)andactivatedbyclick-ingthesquarebuttonontherightwhichwillthenlightuptoindicatethattheconnectionisestablished(figure4.2).

Thedefaultsettingisthatonlythe6knobsand4switchesareassignedtoparam-etersinthepatch.Additionalcontrollerscanbeassignedtoanyparameters.
Toaddacontroller,clicktheADDbuttonandselecttheparameteryouwanttocontrolfromthelistinthemenu(stomps,amps,cabsandrackfx).Youcanthenchoosewhatcontrollertoassigntoit(knobs,switchesorext.pedals).

The LEARN function in the controllers menu allows you to convenientlyassignacontrollertoanyparameter.TodisplaytheLEARNfunction,right-clickonanyof thecontrollers in the interface.AmpliTubewillwait foranincoming MIDI control message, so simply move the desired controlleron the StompIO, andAmpliTubewill automaticallymap it to the selectedparameter(figure4.6).

4.3.3 MIDI
TheMIDI page is where each of the 6 knobs, 4 switches, and 6 externalpedals are assigned to transmitMIDI continuous control data to externaldevices.Select theMIDIContinuousControllernumber in thecorrespond-ingcontrollerrow.Minimumandmaximumvaluesarealsoassignedinthecontrolareasontherighttocustomizethecontrollerrangebyclickinganddraggingthecursortothedesiredvalue(figure4.7).

TheTXProgramChangecanbeusedtocontrolexternalMIDIdevices.Onceselected,itisstoredinthepatchsothateachtimethepatchisrecalled,theProgramChangemessageistransmittedtoexternalMIDIdevices.

4.3.4 Calibration
TheCalibrationpageiswhereyoucanadjustthe6externalpedalstomatchthe controller range to which they are assigned. Expression pedals aremechanicaldevices thatmightneedadjustment from time to time toper-fectlycoverthenecessaryrange.Eachofthe6pedalscanbesetforacustomrange.Tosetacustomrange,selecttheoneyouwishtocalibrate,thensetittoitsphysicalminimumattheheelposition(ortheminimumrangeyoudesire)andclickontheMINbutton.Next,setittoitsmaximum(or,again,themaximumyouwant)andclickontheMAXbutton.Tochecktheprocess,theyellowsegmentbarwillmovewiththepedalshowingitscorrespondingvalueacrossthecalibrationrange(figure4.8).

4.4.1 Program Change
The Program Change page, just like in the StompIO, is where any of the4,000patchescanbeassignedtoreceiveaMIDIprogramchangemessageof1to127sothattheycanberecalledfromanexternalMIDIdevicesuchasahardwarecontrolleroraMIDIsequencer.
TheStealthPedalitselfdoesnotreceiveMIDIprogramchanges,butyoucanstillsendaMIDIprogramchangetoAmpliTubefromanothersource(MIDIsequencer or a second hardware controller) while simultaneously usingtheStealthPedalasyouraudiointerfaceandhardwarecontrollerforotheraspectsofAmpliTube.
ToassignaMIDIprogramnumber toapatch, click thepatchname in thecorrespondingMIDIprogramchangebar,andthenselectanyof the4,000availablepatchesinthemenu(figure4.10).

4.4.2 Control
TheControlpageiswhereanyofthehardwarecontrollerscanbeassignedtoaspecificparameterinthepreset.
NoticethatswitchcontrollersappearinboththeControlwindowandinthebottompartof theStealthPedalControlwindow.This isbecause switchescanonlyaccessdedicatedfunctionsintheStealthPedal,andthereforetheycanoperateindualmode:
wheninNormalmode,theyareavailableforparameterassignmentintheControlwindow
whensettocontrolTunerorPatchUp/PatchDown,theparameterassignmentisdisabled(itwillbegrayedoutintheControlWindow)andtheyareautomaticallyassignedtothosethreeglobalfunctions(figure14.11)

4.4.3 Calibration
The Calibration page is where the built-in pedal and the external pedalcanbeadjustedtomatchthecontrollerrangetowhichtheyareassigned.Expressionpedalsaremechanicaldevicesthatmightneedadjustmentfromtimetotimetoperfectlycovertherange.Eachofthe2pedalscanbesetforacustomrange.Selecttheoneyouwishtocalibrate,thensetittoitsphysicalminimumattheheelposition(ortheminimumrangeyoudesire)andclicktheMIN button. Then set it to itsmaximum (or, again, themaximumyouwant),andclicktheMAXbutton.Tomonitortheprocess,theyellowsegmentbarwillmovewith thepedal showing its corresponding value across thecalibrationrange(figure4.13).

4.4.3 Navigation
ThePlayModeSEQUENCEallowsyoutouseupto16Sequencesthatcancontainupto999Patcheseacharrangedintheorderyoudefine.ThisallowyoutocreatesequenceswherePatchesarestoredinexactlytheorderyouneedthem.
