Senior Wastewater Treatment and process Engineer at Engicon with a B.Sc. in chemical and Environmental Engineering from Sarajevo Universityand Alexandria University, Egypt (Pollution Control). He has 38 years of a unique experience in the water and environmental sectors both nationally and international. Capacity building and training has been an integral part of Abdul WahabMatar’s work throughout his career. He was an expert responsible for upgrading and training local staff and operation of Sana’ treatment plant with a capacity of 50,000 m3/day and extended aeration process.
Eng. Mais Abu Jaber
Eng. Mais has B.Sc. in civil engineering from the University of Jordan and M.Sc. in Water Resources from San Jose State University in California. Eng. Mais has 14 years of experience as a civil design engineer. Throughout her work at Engicon, she has been involved in the design of water, wastewater and storm water network projects. She has accumulated significant experience in the field of hydraulic modeling, the preparation of hydraulic design reports in addition to project management. Eng. Mais has delivered several training courses customized for specific clients and was the project coordinator and a trainer in the biggest capacity-‐building program delivered by Engicon to the State Industrial Design and Consultation Company- SIDCCO (Iraq).

INTRODUCTION A safe supply of potable water is the basic necessity of mankind in the industrialized society, therefore water supply systems are the most important public utility. A colossal amount of money is spent every year around the world for providing or upgrading drinking water facilities. The major share of capital investment in a water supply system goes to the water conveyance and water distribution network. Nearly 80% to 85% of the cost of a water supply project is used in the distribution system; therefore, using rational methods for designing a water distribution system will result in considerable savings. The water supply infrastructure varies in its complexity from a simple, rural town gravity system to a computerized, remote-‐controlled, multisource system of a large city; however, the aim and objective of all the water systems are to supply safe water at the cheapest cost. These systems are designed based on least-‐cost and enhanced reliability considerations.

COURSE OBJECTIVES The course intends mainly to provide training to engineers specialized in water supply engineering with practical knowledge and experience for planning, designing and analyzing of water distribution systems, focusing on the detailed designs and functions of major components of the integrated water supply system from water resources, their intake, collection, transmission to distribution. The participants are expected to complete a water distribution system design under instructor guidance using WaterCAD software. TRAINING METHODOLOGY This training program is divided into lectures and practical training customized to the needs of the audience, providing meaningful experience in planning, design and analysis of water distribution systems. In addition to immediate implementation, the delegates will learn by active participation through the use of self-‐assessment, group discussions, analysis of real-‐life case studies.
