WASTE MANAGEMENT is the collection, transport, processing or disposal,managing and monitoring of waste materials. The term usually relates to materials produced by human activity, and the process is generally undertaken to reduce their effect on health, the environment or aesthetics. Waste management is a distinct practice from resource recovery which focuses on delaying the rate of consumption of natural resources.

The management of wastes treats all materials as a single class, whether solid, liquid, gaseous or radioactive substances, and tried to reduce the harmful environmental impacts of each through different method.

Proper waste management plays a very important role especially in the kitchen where foods are being prepared and cooked.

Waste management procedures and techniques

1. Waste avoidance is engaging in activity that prevents generation of waste. Waste Segragation is the process of dividing garbage and waste products in an effort to reduce, re- use and materials.

2.Waste reduction is the minimization of wasteful consumption of goods.

3. Re-use is the process of recovering materials Intended for some purpose without changing their physical and chemical appearance.

4. Recyling is the treatment of waste materials through a process of making them suitable for benificial use and for other purposes.

5. Composting is the controlled decomposition of organic matter by microorganism mainly bacteria and fungi into a humus like product.

6.Waste disposal refers to the proper discharge of any solid waste into or any land.

Aim: To ensure proper management and disposal of waste. Determine whether the waste is characterized as hazardous waste or not

Pick up free characterized waste tags, containers, and guidelines from the prescribed locations: Ensure that containers holding hazardous wastes are compatible with wastes, and are in good condition, do not leak, and are closed when wastes are not being added or removed. Mark containers with the words “Hazardous Waste.”

When the container is full

Once the container is full, complete a characterized waste tag, specifying the contents, and attach to the waste container. Limit accumulation of waste to the amount. mentioned on the container

Assist the client or waste generator in performing hazardous waste determinations. Pick up waste from the generator on a routine schedule or by appointment. Maintain databases and inventories of all wastes generated. Maintain the accumulation facility and provide for the disposal of hazardous waste generated by client.
