Virtual Reliefs

3d illusions on a flat surface

These reliefs are inspired

by Jan Schoonhoven (1914/1994),

an artist who made his art

using cardboard, glue and white paint.

If Jan Schoonhoven would have lived 50 years later,

he 'd certainly have used the computer,

if only for preliminary studies.

My reliefs are created in AutoCAD,

by taking a simple shape,

and copying, mirroring and rotating that element

until a fascinating pattern appears.

The models are materialized and lighted in 3ds max.

Each relief is done in three different materials.

No material is used more than once.

Currently, there are reliefs in…

…Grey Cardboard…

…Messing…

…Corten Steel…

…Copper…

…Wood…

…White plastic…

…Aluminium…

…Red Metallic…

…Black Synthetic…

…Leather…

…Styrofoam…

…Wood Carving…

…Gold…

…Mosaic…

…Concrete…

…Travertin…

…Bathroom Tiles…

…and Patinated Copper.

More reliefs are on their way:

Brick, Stainless Steel, Rubber, Silver, Asphalt,

Glass, Plaster, Zinc, Rock, Marble, Sand, Cheese, Chocolate, Jeans and more...
