What we can do

Ⓒ Hiromi Nohara, nohara@es.main.jp 6

About “Communication” We need to understand where the team is heading. We need to understand how our daily tasks serve

the bigger picture of the team.

Ⓒ Hiromi Nohara, nohara@es.main.jp 7

About “Respect” We feel respected when we are heard, praised,

offered constructive feedback. We don’t improve by being ignored and judged. We want to choose and decide how we work and

who we work with.

About “Fairness”

Being treated fairly is our bottom-line expectation in 21st century.

As long as we understand the logic behind, we could accept decisions we don’t like very much.

Ⓒ Hiromi Nohara, nohara@es.main.jp 9

About “Meaningfulness” We want to agree on the purpose of our work. We want to feel we are contributing to the world. We want to learn what differences we are making for

our customers.

Ⓒ Hiromi Nohara, nohara@es.main.jp 10

About “Sense of togetherness” We are social being, anyway. We want to be genuine to ourselves. We want to be genuine to our colleagues.

Tips to manage virtual teams.1. Be sensitive to priority differences among members.2. Evoke members’interest in work, not sense of

obligation or guilt, to grab their attention.3. Repeat important messages –We are creatures

good at forgetting things!4. When you praise others, be genuine.5. Let them know that you are always there for them,

and actually be there –but no need to be 24/7.6. Smile and stay positive, or at least try.
