The UAP Marikina Valley Chapter 3rd General Membership Meeting, WAD Celebration with CPD Seminar Was held last October 01, 2018 at One Tirad Pass, Ayala Heights, Quezon City
Last October 1, 2018, the United Architects of the Philippines Marikina Valley Chapter held its 3rd General Membership Meeting and Marvalley Lecture Series: Introduction to Landscape Architecture in celebration to World Architecture Day 2018 at Ar. Michael Peña’s House, No. 1 Tirad Pass Ayala Heights Quezon City. This year the theme for World Architecture Day focused on “Architecture… for A Better World!” Created by the International Union of Architects (UIA), World Architecture Day is celebrated on the first Monday of October with the aim of reminding the world about the collective accountability of architects in designing our future cities and settlements, and visions of architecture that is responsible, innovative and enriching. The program started with the invocation led by Ar. Paul James A. Gunda, followed by the National Anthem, UAP March and UAP Credo, and the meeting was formally called to order. Two (2) sponsors (Spurway Enterprises and Puyat Steel/Apo Flooring) have presented their quality products over dinner. The opening remarks and the introduction to the guest speaker was led by Ar. Jasmin Grace Lee. The lecture on Introduction to Landscape Architecture was presented by guest lecturer Ar. RENATO A. HERAY, FUAP, FRIA, ASEAN Arch., PALA.

Introduction to
Landscape Architecture

program for architects

Architects of the
Philippines applied by
UAP Marikina Valley
Chapter. A successful
CPD program for
Marvalley Architects!
This thematic course introduced participants to the
breadth of the profession of Landscape Architecture. The
purpose of this introductory course is to instill an
understanding of the profession of landscape
architecture, a profession defined as an art and science of
planning or designing on the land, arranging and creating
spaces and objects in a landscape for human use. The
participants were noticed to be very attentive during the
entire seminar proper as the speaker Ar. Heray did an
interesting presentation. After his talk several participants
actively, asked questions regarding the topic. The
questions raised were about, drainage consideration to
landscaping, the services rendered by landscape
architects, conflict regarding overlapping practices
between architecture and landscape architecture. An
interesting question, raised by Ar. Grace Anne Tamesis
was about the problems and consideration that arises to
spirits living within old trees and the environment.

immediately followed the lecture. The President’s
Report covered different chapter activities,
upcoming projects, Joint Area Assembly, UAP
National notes and updates, and events to be held
within the succeeding months. The meeting was
adjourned after the recognition of birthday
celebrators and the group photo. Ar. Mary Rose
Millan and Ar. Romeo Miramonte, Jr. are the master
of ceremonies.

After the said meeting, we have a follow up meeting last October 9,
2018 at Kapitan Moy Tourisms office. With the head of Tourisms office
Mr. Ponchie Santos, Ms. Elenita Cruz, Red Cross Chief Kagawad Bodjie
Bernardino and Mam Edna Dela Paz, plus the Planning and
Architecture division of Marikina City Hall Ar. Ralph Espinosa and Ar.
Lourdes Santos. Marvalley Officers and Board of Directors was
represented by our chapter president Ar. Lorie Villame, secretary and
chairman of Red Cross project Ar. Caroline Victorino, treasurer Ar.
Merijill Medenilla, Directors Ar. Romeo Miramonte Jr., Ar. Raymond
Munar, and past president Ar. Roger Victorino. The architectural and
planning division of Marikina City hall laid Mayor Marci’s instruction
on the project and the whole group agrees on putting inputs for the
project. Items also discussed was the approved old ordinances for the
heritage zone for which it has not yet fully implemented, the lot plan
and tax declaration of the site, ownership of the lot and the building,
the setbacks and parking requirements, the re-routing & flow of traffic
and the overall impact of setting up a tourist attraction site. At first,
the city hall staffs’ offer another building location for the Red Cross
and the proposed 4 sty building will be solely occupied by the tourism
offices. Everyone okays with that until Mayor Marcelino Teodoro came
at the meeting and voiced his concerns for the operation of the red
Cross. He instructed us to make a schematic design of Red Cross with
Tourism Information Center Building to blend in the heritage zone
using new and alternative materials and finishes that would last. Also,
the establishing of the site includes other existing building to facelift,
making path walks for the tourism walking tour and souvenir shops for
the tourist.

Marci last September 10, 2018,
Marvalley Architects was given a task
to design the Proposed Red Cross and
Tourism Information Center Building
at #2 V. Gomez St. cor J.P. Rizal St., San
Roque, Marikina City. The building
where it is located at the moment had
been the site of the old Marikina
Municipal Hall and the place has its
historical and Cultural importance to
Marikenos. Our beloved Mayor was
inspired by our continuous advocacy
on the heritage conservation that it
has become also his vision to create
the long-lost history of Marikina to be
recreated thru the development of a
Heritage Zone.

TWO-DAY VISIONING AND PLANNING
WORKSHOP
Last October 11 and 12, 2018, UAP Marikina
Valley Chapter was invited to a Two-day
Visioning and Planning Workshop, held at
San Roque Multi-purpose Hall, Marikina City
and participated by Ar. Lorie Villame
(Chapter President) and Ar. Jasmin Grace Lee
(VP-Operations).
The two-day participatory workshop was
conducted by the Local Government of
Marikina and Envia Consultancy Inc. with the
purpose of updating the Marikina City
Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and
Ecological Profile, to set out a coherent
spatial strategy to optimize the highest and
best use of the city's land resources. A
planning approach in updating the CLUP is to
conduct a Visioning-Planning Workshop with
the goal of gaining perspectives from
important stakeholders (Marvalley
Architects) for the city's future development
and progress.

The first day of the workshop focused on visioning and revisited the existing vision statement of Marikina; from there the facilitators would ask the participants to envision and craft a refined vision statement for adoption on the CLUP Guidelines. The afternoon session in a breakaway group, focused on identifying the key sectorial issues and concerns of Marikina City and mapped out this concerns. Also, identification of success indicators, analysis of vision-reality gap, generate GOTS (goals-objectives-targets and spatial strategies) were done before the end of the session.
On the second day, the breakaway group continued the activity from the first day and focused on the identification of intervention measures through policies, programs, projects and activities. The group consists of Marikina Engineering Office and Planning Office representatives, Marvalley architects, and Enp. Rabinder Dickton Rye. One of the topics tackled by the group is flood proofing, mitigation and management as key issues on planning for the updating of Marikina City Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and Crafting of intervention map. To top of the workshop, each sector presented their output presentations.

Another meeting was held last October 22, 2018 at
Kusina ni Kambal restaurant, it was called up by the
Red Cross personnel Ms. Jennifer De Guzman head
of operation officer, Mam Edna Dela Paz and Mr.
Paolo Roxas. It was attended also by Tourism head
Mr. Ponchie Santos, Architectural and planning
officer Ar. Ralph Espinosa and Ar. Lourdes Santos.
They discussed the space requirement of Red Cross
for their operation same also with the tourism
office. The project is on its fast faced for the
timeline of Mayor Marci Teodoro. He intends to
finish the said project May of 2019 on or before the
end of his term as a Mayor. Marvalley Architects,
Ar. Lorie Villame and Ar. Caroline Victorino make
an initial presentation of plans and perspective for
the project. They appreciate the new look and
hopes it will soon arise. We also agree to make a
revised plan as per their given requirements before
the final presentation to Mayor Marcelino
Teodoro.
After that, Cong. Bayani Fernando came as a
customer in the restaurant. We are so lucky to chat
a little about the Bahay Tao Project. It was a fruitful
and hopeful meeting for the chapter to be involved
on Local Government Unit projects. Go Marvalley
Architects. Mabuhay ang Arkitektong Pilipino. Get
an Architect!
