Paying for College Nearly every student is eligible to obtain some form of financial aid to assist with the cost of education. There are two types: merit-based aid (scholarships) and aid based on need.
Scholarships All applicants are automatically considered for scholarships - there is no need for a separate application or essay. Applicants who are residents of states that are members of the Western Undergraduate Exchange program for reduced tuition are also automatically considered for the WUE scholarship. Those states are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
Need-Based Aid UM awards need-based aid using the Department of Education criteria for award levels. To be considered for need-based aid, including student and parent loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Campus VisitsExperience the University of Montana in person. The campus visit program operates year round and offers an opportunity to see inside UM and create your own impression.
The campus visit includes an information presentation about UM, a guided tour of campus, optional meetings with faculty in your area of interest, and complimentary lunch at our award-winning Food Zoo.
Visits are available Monday through Friday, except holidays. If possible, come during the academic year to experience campus life at its fullest. (Although Missoula is spectacular during the summer.)
To give us time to prepare and arrange for faculty to meet with you, schedule your visit at least two weeks in advance. During holidays and breaks, visits and tours are limited. Register for a campus visit at admissions.umt.edu/visit.
UM DAYS (OPEN HOUSE PROGRAM):Prospective students and their families can experience what life is really like at the University of Montana by attending one of our UM Days. It’s a full-day event that includes an admissions and financial aid presentation, campus tour, student panel, a separate session just for parents, residence hall tours and academic department meetings. We’ll even buy your lunch.
GRIZ NIGHT:Held during the month of July, Griz Night is our overnight campus visit experience for high school juniors and seniors. Spend the night in a residence hall, experience a college class, tour campus, relax on the Oval and learn what it means to be a Grizzly from current UM students and professors.

Complete My Academics Tasks In the late spring the Office for Student Success hosts a web portal, called My Academics, for
all newly admitted freshmen. Upon admission to UM, OSS emails instructions for how to log on to your personal site, which contains information relevant to you and your chosen major: a list of your first semester core courses, your ACT/SAT and writing placement scores, information about how to change a major, and links to academic resources for further information.
My Academics displays your personalized My To-Do List, setting forth all of the academic tasks you must complete before June 1 to be registered in the high-demand courses for your major. One of those tasks – completing the Academic Interest Questionnaire (A-IQ) – allows you to indicate specific interests within your chosen major, as well as list high school courses and courses taken for college and AP credit.
