• Land is the natural shapes of the Earth’s surface.• Landforms can be on land and in

water too (landforms of coastal relief).

PlainA plain is

a flat area on Earth’s surface.

PLAINS: Flat, grassy land that stretches for miles.

PlateauA plateau is a flat area higher than the land around it.PLATEAUS: Steep, sloped land with a flat top.

HillA hill is

a small elevation in the Earth's surface

MountainA mountain is

a place on Earth’s surface that is much higher than the land around it.

MOUNTAINS: High steep,rocky land.

ValleyA valley is

a lowland area between higher lands such as mountains.

VALLEYS: Low land in between mountains.

Depression

A depression is an area that islower than itssurroundings.

CanyonA canyon is a deep valley

with very steep sides

CANYONS: Deep valley.

Peninsula

A peninsula is a body of land that is surrounded by water on three sides

ArchipelagoAn archipelago is

a group or chain of islands together in a sea or ocean.

Coast

A coast is the area where the ocean touches the land.

Lake

A lake is water that is completely surrounded by land.

A river is a long

Cape

A cape isa pointed piece of land that sticks out into a sea

GulfA gulf is a part of the ocean that is partly surrounded by land (it is usually larger than a bay).

BayA bay is a body of water that is partly enclosed by land (and is usually smaller than a gulf).

Strait or channel

A strait is a narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water
