AA mmeessssaaggee ffrroomm oouurr TTrreeaassuurreerr…… hen I reflect on agriculture and its importance
today, I can’t help but think about how
fortunate we are to the many in our region that
have chosen it as their careers – somewhat surprising when
you consider our proximity to the urban centers which are
growing so quickly around us. It’s a true show of passion! I
do think we have picked a great industry to be a part of,
although technically we did not pick agriculture – it picked
us!
I have never been more proud to be actively involved with
MRAS. Agriculture impacts every facet of human life. It
provides food for a growing world, it improves the lives of
those who farm or work in the industry while also
improving the lives of consumers. The future is also bright
with endless opportunities for young people who wish to
pursue post-secondary education and careers in
agriculture.
MRAS is embracing the future now and will continue to do
through staging various activities and events during the
year to build community, and ensure that generations of
tomorrow continue to benefit from our passions.
Yet despite all these positives, it is essential – now more
than ever – that we work collaboratively with our sponsors,
membership and volunteers to share our success and the
good news stories with those outside of agriculture who
may not understand what happens at MRAS, and what
positive impact we have on the local community.
With the spring season well underway, MRAS will have a
number of events kicking into high gear with the Farmers’
Market and the “Run to the Market” Half Marathon -
opening / running on June 14, 2014. We have more
vendors at the market than we can handle, so come on out
and enjoy the opening day!
Staff and volunteers have been working diligently to get the
event season off to a great success and we are well on our
way to that goal. As you come to each event and enjoy
the MRAS community, please take note of our sponsors -
they form a big part of our community and provide a means
for MRAS to build upon the past and look towards the
future.
So whether it is food, running towards the COBS cinnamon
buns, fun at the fair, horse racing, the rodeo or the markets
and more food and fun (did I say food!) we look forward to
seeing you at MRAS!
Thank you for your support!!!
Brent Foster,
Director / Treasurer

he Millarville Mutts & Mustangs recently had our 4H Public
Speaking competition, and it went very well. We would
like to thank Altalink for sponsoring the competition, as
well as congratulate our winners and everyone who participated.
You all did a fantastic job.
Thank you to all of the judges who gave up their time to help us carry on a 4H tradition,
and to everyone who helped make the public speaking day a success. We would also
like to thank Dr. Erin Sheilds from Moore & Co. Veterinary for coming and speaking to
everyone in the Millarville Mustangs group about equine lameness.
Our season is winding down as we just hosted our annual achievement day on
Saturday, May 24, and 4H on Parade which is to take place at the Calgary Stampede Grounds this coming weekend May
31& June 1, 2014. If your child is interested in participating in 4H for the 2014 / 2015 season, we will be doing
registration for our club in the fall, or feel free to email me with questions!

MMiillllaarrvviillllee CCoommmmuunniittyy LLiibbrraarryy We have a new art exhibit in the library and it will be here
until June 18th. The Burgess Shale Textile Art Exhibition
presents a spectacular vision of what life may have looked like
500 million years ago. Select artists from all over western
Canada have visually recreated prehistoric life forms by
incorporating the natural sciences in their textile works. Each
of the twenty-seven art quilts in the exhibition represents a
different fossil in the Burgess Shale, a fifty-kilometre stretch
of Kootenai territory in British Columbia’s Yoho National Park.
Studio Art Quilt Associates is a non-profit international
organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt
through education, exhibits, professional development and
documentation. This exhibit is part of the Alberta Foundation
for the Arts Traveling Exhibition Program and is financially
supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. Be sure to
come in and see this amazing display of quilting talent.
We will again be offering a Summer Reading Program for the
children over the summer. It is so important that kids keep up
their reading skills during summer break from school, and we
offer crafts and games to enhance their library experience. It
is a drop-in program and runs from July 2nd to August 20th. The
library begins its summer hours on Wednesday, July 2nd and
we are open from 10:30 am to 7:30pm. We will resume our
regular hours on Tuesday, September 2nd.
