Slow uptake - great potentials

Why so slow?

• For organisational & semantical interoperability we need trust– Why are not vocabularies reused more often?

• RDF is easy to explain to machines

• Topic Maps is easy to explain to humans– But, it does not help much when we lack...

• Tools and demonstrators

What identity scheme is serving the Minitrue?

Flexplearn - Dino Karabeg, UiOPolyscopic Topic Maps play the role of geographical maps

Motivation: 'information jungle'

We can come out of the information jungle by climbing

to a top of a mountain

Polyscopic information

The scope determines the view.

Three kinds of abstraction:

• Horizontal

• Vertical

• Structural

Conclusions

• Need for some simple recommendations how to facilitate exchange of ontologies, vocabularies etc.

• Identifiers, identifiers, identifiers – how do we create the semantic hub?

• Demonstrate the tools – and make them known!

Thanks!
