FOR ME
ASSUMPTIONS
People move
through the
stages at
different pace
People may
need more
support in one
stage than
another
People may
need more time
to process in
one stage vs
another
You can go
backwards in
response to a
stimulus
There is no
right or wrong
pace or way to
move through
change
Different people
deal with
the same
situations in
different ways.
Our reactions/
responses are
influenced not
only by the
situation or
event that we
experience, but
by our beliefs
and emotions
too.
May ask:
Why? (why, why, why)
The change must make sense
May appear skeptical, distant, checked-out
Prefers:
Bottom-line summaries
May ask:
What can I expect in the future?
May offer ideas.
May go off on tangents.
Prefers: what is the big picture.
Time to reflect and ponder and
wonder.
Allow for unformulated ideas.
Accepts ambiguity.
May ask:
What is the plan to get us Point B?
Who are decision-makers?
What are the next steps?
Prefers:
Details & specifics.
A game plan.
Specific timelines. Clarity on potential
ambiguities.
May ask:
Who’s affected? Who’s involved? How do plans
impact the team?
How are you doing?
Prefers:
Be sincere and genuine! No phony empathy.
Share where you’re at – your emotions, feelings,
experiences to connect genuinely.
Connection & focus on social interactions.
