MUMBAI/NEW DELHI, Mar 28:

The Enforcement Directoratehas arrested a "close" associateand the vice president of a firmof diamantaire Nirav Modi in

connection with a money laun-dering probe in the over Rs12,000 crore PNB bank scam,officials said today.

Shyam Sunder Wadhwa, thevice president of the Firestar

group, was arrested last nightunder the Prevention of MoneyLaundering Act (PMLA), theofficials said.

He was described as a "closeconfidant" of Modi.

"He is in close touch withModi and is also involved inmoney laundering at the behestof and in aid of Nirav Modi," anofficial said.

This is the ED's first arrest inthe case.(PTI)
