NOVEMBER 16TH AT5:30 IN TOWN HALL
One of the most importantparts of well-being is a sense ofsocial connection. In fact, the
Surgeon General says thebiggest health crisis facingAmericans today isn’t a physicalailment at all- it’s isolation.
We’re working to help bridgethat gap by making it easier foryounger family members to stayin touch with our residents.
ShareMail, a service we havepartnered with, makes it easy tosend physical mail from inside ofFacebook- so as kids post onFacebook, letters can be sent toresidents who prefer to get theirnews and updates non-digitally.
Stop by to learn more abouthow to use this easy, fun app tosend letters and keep familymembers connected!
CIRCLE OF FRIENDSSPOTLIGHT
This month in Circle ofFriends we embraced our artsyside and went for a guided tourat The Blanton Museum of Art.Residents enjoyed manydifferent types of pieces fromportraits to abstract and classicto contemporary styles. Anotherhighlight of the month was avisit to the Texas Military ForcesMuseum at Camp Mabry.Residents got an interactiveTexas History lesson and learnedabout how the Texas Guardplayed an important role in USaffairs such as the Civil War,WWII, and The Cold War. In thecoming days we look forward tocelebrating Halloween. We areplanning on going to pick ourown pumpkins at the pumpkinpatch and take a spooky tourthrough Austin’s most hauntedspots.
NEIGHBORHOODSPOTLIGHT
We are always having fun inthe neighborhood. Whether it beplaying a game that strengthensour hand-eye coordination orenjoying a discussion aboutwhat happened on this day inhistory, there is alwayssomething to do with the group! This month residents enjoyed aneighborhood exclusiveOcktoberfest where they worefunny, themed props andcooked German-style pretzels.Columbus Day was also a funtopic of discussion. THANK YOU TOANGIE AND HERARMY!
“I participated in the Walk toEnd Alzheimer’s because my75-year-old mom is diagnosed withAlzheimer’s. She is very well takencare of at Belmont Village, but it’svery difficult for me, my brother andmy sister to witness the diseasetaking pieces of her life from her, little by little. It’s very sad. I getthrough it by immersing myself inmom’s care, dementia education andinvolvement. There’s no cure forthis disease. It’s impacting millions, and it’s growing every year. I nowknow the importance of researchfunding, and I want to honor mymom by doing my part.
I am blessed with a wonderfulfamily. We support each other inour various roles taking care ofmom. I’m also blessed with manyvery generous friends, who supportme in what I’m doing. They checkin on me, they’ve helped us movemom twice, and they’ve made myfirst year involved with the Walkvery successful! I put it out there, and they stepped up with moredonations than I expected to raiseand by walking with me.”
