Physical Geography

Features of the eastern coast are younger than in the west

Piedmont- area at or near the base of the mountain(stretches from New Jersey to Alabama)Basin- low area of land, generally surrounded by mountains

Death Valley

Located at the western edge of the Great Basin is Death Valley(lowest point in North America).

It lies 282 feet below Sea Level and has recorded the second highest temperature ever---134 degrees!!

Has 11 different climate types, more than any other nation

Climate is influenced by mountains, westerly winds, middle latitude location and ocean currents

Human Geography

The U.S. is the most culturally diverse population in the worldMostly of Euro decent, but recent trends have Latinos and Asians on the riseEvery major world religion is present here, but mostly protestant and catholic

Population Distribution

Greatest concentration is on the east coast and in California

The three largest cities are: New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago

Suburbs are growing and inner cities are decaying
