Intern (Student Mentoring Program Coordinator)

Professor Beth Bormann is looking for an intern to serve for up to 20 hours a week, as the
Student Mentoring Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Analyze and write report summarizing the results of
the Student Mentoring Pilot Program held from May –
June, 2016
Maintain a database of student mentors and mentees
Recruit new student mentors
Research and create the New Student Mentor Training
Conduct the New Student Mentor Training two times
an academic year
Recruit mentees
Assign new mentees to trained student mentors
Develop list of monthly responsibilities for student
mentors
Assign and monitor the completion of student mentor monthly responsibilities
Act as a resource for student mentors
Research, develop, and lead two webinars on a health education-related topic (stress management, sleep

Data Science Fellowship
Data Incubator New York City | Washington D.C. | Bay Area
The Data Incubator is a Cornell-funded data science training organization. We run an advanced 8-week
fellowship for PhDs looking to enter industry. A variety of innovative companies partner with The Data
Incubator for their hiring and training needs, including LinkedIn, Genentech, Capital One, Pfizer, and many
others. The program is free for admitted Fellows. Fellows have the option to participate in the program either in
person in New York City, Washington DC, the San Francisco Bay Area, or online. The Data Incubator is an
intensive 8 week fellowship that prepares masters students, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM and social science
fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for Fellows and supported by sponsorships

The MPH Internship/Capstone is taken after successful completion of all core courses. Students should begin planning for the internship/capstone upon admission to the program and submit application forms to the internship coordinator in the term prior to starting the internship. The internship gives students the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and competencies acquired through coursework in a real work setting. Internships are frequently unpaid. Many students are able to work at regular jobs and complete the 240 contact hours (6 quarter credits) required for the internship on a part-time basis. This often requires some flexibility in one’s regular job. Internships may be completed over one or two terms. A group internship orientation session is offered once each term. Internship coordinators work with students on an individual basis. Students must complete a minimum of 240 hours in an approved site; write a 10 page reflection paper describing specific competencies and coursework demonstrated in the practice setting, and do an oral presentation. Public Health Educator II
EnrollNYC Project Lead

The Health Access Support Unit of the Public Engagement Unit is recruiting 5 EnrollNYC Project Leads with
experience in public health, health education, management, best data practices, community-based outreach and
organizing.
The Public Engagement Unit (PEU) uses data to identify demographics that likely want or need city services;
with a team of specialists who are trained to effectively engage New Yorkers and connect them with vital
resources. The unit partners with other city agencies, community groups, non-profit organizations, elected
officials and service providers to engage directly with communities and subject matter experts in all five
boroughs. In addition, the unit is frequently involved in citywide events, special projects in conjunction with
multiple city agencies, and targeted days of action. There are three primary sections of the unit, Health Access
Support, Tenant Support and Home Support, as well as a central unit which includes data, operations and
policy/research teams.
The Health Access Support Unit (HASU) within PEU will employ a direct engagement model to increase
enrollment in health insurance across New York City. Using proactive and data-driven outreach strategies,
targeted paid communications, leveraging strong individual case management and closely coordinating with
other city agencies, community organizations and other stakeholders, the unit will connect the uninsured with
health insurance providers throughout New York City.
HASU will employ effective outreach strategies, centered on proactive engagement and community and
neighborhood-based organizing, in communities targeted to specific health facilities. The unit will create a
robust case management process that integrates existing city processes and proactively connects uninsured New
Yorkers to enrollment and health services providers.
Responsibilities:
Managing a team of 2 - 8 specialists, creating team agendas and holding periodic review meetings.
Maintaining ongoing reporting and communication with the HASU Outreach Manager.
Evaluating programmatic needs and providing feedback on the implementation of new processes,
creating team trainings to reinforce evolving standards when necessary.
Building and maintaining relationships with pre-existing key stakeholders and initiating new
relationships with others in benefit of programmatic needs.
Ability to analyze data and make decisions about resource allocation using it.
Ability to navigate and accurately maintain electronic information in a collaborative database.
Conducting field checks to ensure adherence to best practices and providing feedback on how to
improve contact and intakes both in the field as well as at event.
Performing quality control measures by placing phone calls to clients; conducting weekly measures
established by the Data Director for verifying data accuracy.
Creating individualized outreach plans for their borough, mapping out key geographic areas, community
partners and interest groups.

For 20 years, Health & Medicine Policy Research Group (HMPRG) has administered the Chicago Area
Schweitzer Fellows Program, a service-learning program that annually recruits 30 graduate level students to
conduct innovative projects to improve health and access to health care for Chicago’s medically underserved
communities. In addition to enhancing the students’ academic training, the Fellowship is an important formative
experience that will encourage students to make a lifelong commitment to service. Ten years ago, HMPRG
successfully launched a “Fellows for Life” Program, which provides year-round events and opportunities aimed
at helping alumni of the Schweitzer Fellowship continue to develop themselves as leaders in service. The
Schweitzer Fellows Program Coordinator will help assure the smooth running of the Schweitzer Fellowship and
the Fellows for Life Programs. The Program Coordinator reports to the Schweitzer Fellows Program Director

Essential Duties: Oversees fiscal, personnel, and public health programs for a full-time certified health

Data Manager, HPV Vaccination

The HPV VACs Data Manager supports the development of a strategic vision and data collection protocols for
HPV vaccination project data as well as leads the data monitoring for a national grant-funded intervention and
systems change initiative to prevent HPV associated cancers through increasing HPV vaccination prioritization.
The Vaccinate Adolescents Against Cancers (VACs) project aims to increase HPV vaccination rates for
adolescents across the nation through improved provider awareness and education and improved system-wide
processes, with a focus on adolescents ages 11 to 12.
The project has three more years of funding (Oct. 1, 2016 - Sept. 30, 2019).
Responsibilities
Support the development of a strategic vision for data monitoring for HPV vaccination project data.
Develop a process for managing and monitoring data, including routine data quality checks, for various
external and internal users, primarily but not exclusively using Adobe forms.
Create, test, and update data collection forms as needed in collaboration with the Statistics and
Evaluation Center (SEC).
Design and develop database tables in Tableau (or similar visualization software) for data collection,
tracking, analysis, and reporting.
Provide training and technical assistance to ACS Division staff to ensure data are entered accurately and
timely and placed in collections that are easy to manage and which support subsequent analysis.
Create and maintain a SharePoint database of key data elements for intervention sites as needed.
Participate in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on project accomplishments.
Perform miscellaneous HPV project-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Knowledge/Skills
An advanced degree (master’s or doctorate) in public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, computer
science, business/business analytics, or other science discipline where data management and data
analysis are key professional skills is required.
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in public health, evaluation, statistics, biostatistics, computer
science, business, geography or equivalent, with 5+ years of relevant data management, analysis and
reporting experience will also be considered.
Knowledge of health records management systems and electronic health records software ideal.
Experience acquiring, managing and analyzing public health data with a concentration in health
informatics
Specific knowledge related to vaccine data/ HPV associated cancer data ideal.
Demonstrated capability to logically work through data processes and provide a clear written and
graphical description of the process.
